Sympetrum fonscolombii male
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Sympetrum fonscolombii (Selys, 1840)|
Common names: Red-veined Darter, Nomad
Sympetrum fonscolombii is a very common drangonfly of cretan fauna. This in picture is a male found in Heraklion on an uncultivated land early in the morning. I have posted two days earlier the female. The abdomen of males is redish or it has a characteric red line. That in picture has red line on abdomen. It was flying all around the dry plants.
Males are known for being aggressive and will perch on something within their territory while watching for intruders.

What a pretty dragonfly you have posted for us. Nicely focused and showing good detail. The flash really brought out the rich colors, especially the reds and yellows. I like the blurred dark BG which keeps your focus on the subject.
