| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I photographed this griffon vulture today from the terrace of our house overlooking the Carmel national park. I used my 105 mm macro lens, thus the pic is far from perfect. Still I want to share the beauty of this bird, having wingspan of over 2.5 meters.
After being wiped out in the 1950's from the Carmel by secondary poisoning, these scavengers have been reintroduced quite successfully. Most to of these birds are raised in captivity. Note the ID markings on the wings. We see them quite often circling the park, and sometimes our neighbourhood.
Will try to capture these majestic birds again with a more suitable lens... |

Hi Ishi,the quality of sharpness is not the best,especially in the main pic while seems very good in the WS,very curious to see the wingmark in a bird,useful and excellent post made in a great timing,have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano
Hi, Ishi. Thanks for posting this rare photograph of the vulture from Carmel national Park. Agree that the photograph is not sharp but its structure can be seen easily. Wingspan is really impressive. Thanks for sharing.

You must have been excited to see this large vulture approaching. Sometimes we don't always have time to change our camera lens. Despite that it's an impressive shot and showing it's ID markings and how large the vulture is.

Hello Ishi,
Even though the photo isn't the best quality I fully understand your reason for posting it. This bird reminds me of our California Condor that faced a similar predicament years ago and is now on it's way back.
The birds features and plumage color can still easily be seen. Such a large vulture and captured in an attractive fully opened wing pose. Thank you for posting this interesting and educational image.
