Lixus vilis (Rossi, 1790)
Coleoptera: Curculionidae

Lixus vilis (08-12 mm long) is a monophagus species feeding on Erodium sp. The females lay their eggs on the root collar of plants and the larvae eat later in the rootstock of the host plants. The new generation hatches in the autumn and overwintered as adult.
The imago feed on leaves and flowers of host plants early spring. They conceal themselves especially during the day under the leaf rosettes. I faced some difficulties to shoot it as it was hidden inside the plant canopy.

Very good compo Nikos.
Thanks for sharing.

Interesting insect that looks like a Weevil to me, Nikos.
Though the focus is not ideal, it is still an attractive composition.
Thanks.

hello Nikos
Une belle macro, j'aime bien la composition avec la limite de la feuille en diagonale, et la netteté sur l'insect.
Bonne soirée
Roland

Hello Nikos
You've captured this Lixus vilis nicely with lovely colour and sharpness. Your notes are interesting and sounds like an insect that wouldn't be welcome in the garden.

Hello Nikos,
May be a tad bit lacking in DOF, but still a fine looking specimen and overall pretty sharp. I really like its beautiful rusty red color and unique body features. The long snout resembles that of a type of weevil. You did well considering it was hidden in the plant and posed such a challenge just trying to get a shot. Well done!!
Ron
