[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have captured this 'Red-Knobbed Coot' near our house there is a big Dam. My wife first noticed this species and we took a few pictures before it fly away. Not much time to go far so it wasn't a bad time to walk around the Dam and we got a few different species which I haven't posted yet here in TN. This species are black colored but here it looks little bit dull. I think it's still immature one; juvenile.

Red-Knobbed Coot or Crested Coot (Fulica cristata) is a member of the rail and crake bird family, the Rallidae.
It's a resident breeder across much of Africa. It builds a nest of dead reeds near the water's edge.

Color black except whitish frontal shield.
They are 38-45 cm long
Spans - 75-85cm across the wings
Weigh - 585-1085 g

very nice picture with good details and lovely colours
thanks gr lou

Hi Sri,
It was a fruitful walk, as I see in your note. :-) And if every pic is on the same level as this one, we really have to find some extra force to follow you... :-) Excellent pose and lights, and although we don't see the exif infos, exposure was perfect as well as the ripples froze into the pic nicely, meanwhile there's no underexposure on the dark plumage. Elegant and artistic shot, hats off to you!
Kind regards, László

Hello Srikumar,
Very nice photo of this coot with its red knobs. I've photographed it in 2005, not in the best quality. But this one is beautiful in good sharpness, details and natural colors.

Hello Srikumar,
Very nice details of this Coot. The quality of the photo is impressive. Very nice details of the red crest and fearhers.

Hello Srikumar,
Your coots are much more colorful then ours. The adult American Coot is a dark gray with a black head and an ivory colored bill. Like you said, maybe this is a juvenile bird, even so the bill is gorgeous. Focus is sharp and exposure is right on the money. Great shot!!

Hi Srikumar,

I like the ripples on the water. The point of view is showing the details of the Red-Knobbed Coo. The ghood luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

a perfect and pleasing capture, TFS and greetings Ori
