Tropinota hirta (Poda, 1761
Coleoptera: Cetoniidae
Common name: cétoine hérissée

Tropinota hirta (8-13mm) is a very common beetle of Cretan fauna. It feeds among other things rosaceous, cruciferous, grass and asteraceous flowers such as apple, cabbage, rapeseed or cereal (especially rye). Even if during feeding, pollen attaches to hair and can contribute to pollination, the insect is still considered harmful. It causes havy damage on cultivated white roses outdoor.

The larva lives in the soil and feeds on roots (often dead) without causing significant damage.

Hello Nikos,
A magnificent photo of this rather hairy insect. Super clear shot while showing exceptional detail. The off center composition is very eye catching and I love the clean blurred BG. Very nice!!
