QUEEN OF SPAIN FRITILLARY (ISSORIA LATHONIA)-OPEN WINGS

The Queen of Spain Fritillary (Issoria lathonia) is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae.
It occurs throughout the Palaearctic from North Africa to Japan (Bretherton, 1990). It is distinctly migratory in Western Europe, reaching almost as far north as the Arctic Circle; however, it is resident in southern Sweden and Finland, and on the coastal sand dunes of the Netherlands (Bretherton, 1990). A map of its distribution is given at Lepidoptera and some other life forms (2009).
The adult is a strong flyer, and may be found anywhere but forests.

Ciao Marius, great macro of fantastic butterfly; fine details, splendid sharpness and wonderful natural colors, very well done, my friend, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

This is apparently the most beautiful Fritillary in the world and your perfect image of it makes my day, Marius.
Thanks for sharing this beauty. Your return to TN has given a fresh lease of life to this sagging site.
