[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The earth-boring dung beetles (Geotrupes stercorosus)are a family of beetles (Geotrupidae — Greek geos, earth, and trypetes, borer). They are coprophagous beetles similar to scarab beetles and bolboceratids

They communicate by stridulation (rubbing body parts together to make sounds). They prepare underground burrows for their larvae, provisioning them with dung.

This one is black-blue metallic and it was about 20 mm long. I saw him in a a forrest flying streight in my direction so I took cover, it seems to be a big insect when it's flying. But he was very nice, gave me the chance to make some shots before he flew away.

Hi Sabine,

Good picture! Details are really sharp and composition is excellent. Except for the few hot spots (on the legs and on the back) exposure is also really well. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Roland

Hi Sabine,
An excellent macro shot. Excellent job with the flash to get this good exposure. Nice color and detail. The composition and framing look perfect.

Hi Sabine, the beetle looks good. But being metallic makes the lights shine too brightly on his body. Good composition and POV, well done.
