[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
As you have surely heard or read, there's a wildfire recently raging in the island of Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands off the Northwestern coast of Africa. Thousands of people were evacuated by the authorities and the flames are not under control yet.

For most people Gran Canaria is only a subtropical island plagued by mass tourism. However, if someone's able to oversee through the pink fog of coastal hotels, restaurants and night clubs, they reveal the real beauty of the island. Just in case, although there are approximately five hundred plant species on Gran Canaria that we can find on the other Canary islands, too, there are more than a hundred of plant species that grow only on Gran Canaria. "Gran Canaria is to botany what the Galapagos Islands are to zoology" (source).

You can see the emblematic, endemic monocotyledon Canary Island Date Palm (Phoenix canariensis Chabaud) on the pic. This species is native to at least 6 of 7 Canary islands (believed to be introduced to El Hierro), but the greatest number of specimens are living in Gran Canaria and La Gomera islands (source).

A beautiful photo that describes very well the area with its characteristics and beautiful plants, some of them unique! Well done with light and depth of field to appreciate all the vegetation of the area.
A good title for the photo, we men are gradually destroying the creation in which we live and feed us.
True, it is good to pray that God will give us wisdom so as not to continue destroying it.
Yesterday I heard in the news that the fire was already controlled but not extinguished.
I am Spanish and I have not yet been able to visit this beautiful part of my country, one day I hope that God will grant me that privilege like other parts of Europe that I have not yet visited.

Hi Laszlo,the date palm from Gran Canaria is an excellent way to talk about the terrible fire there that i seen me too on TV,i hope a fast solution of this disaster,but in these days there is Amazonia and Siberia too in fire,and it's a great great problem for all.
