Hi Emma, looking at the smaller version I would say they are Scarlet Wax-cap (Hygrocybe coccinea).
They certainly look unusual like this, well spotted and thanks for sharing.

Hi Emma, I have a 3rd choice of name for you this one is generally only found in northern britain which is where you saw this. (One of the reason it is good for people to inclued details of where and how they found a subject). I think it is more likely to be Hygrobesplendidissima the image I have of it seem to match the 2 images you have.
You seem to have got the details of this well inspite of the weather and having to use the flash. TFS
Very beautiful specimen. I like your shot, great colours and quite descriptive. I would have cleaned a bit more the disturbing grass. Thanks for sharing.
