|Ibexes taken In high Savoy (France) at the time of one of my many trek.|
Scientific name : Capra Ibex Ibex
All the troop was present (fifteen to twenty individuals) not frightened at all by my presence.
This one was at around 20m from me.
The male, called goatee, can weigh until 115 kg and measures of 155 to 160 centimeters for a height to the garrot of 67 to 85 cm. It carries big horns, that can measure until 90 centimeters. Note that they never fall.
The female, smaller than the male, weighs approximately 50 kg. More difficult to approach than the male, it is also characterized by its horns much shorter (25 cm), very thin and without bumps.
The ibexes show themselves very nimble on the boulders and the flagstones smooth thanks to nonskid sabots.
Contrary to the chamois, the ibexes can draw aside the fingers, which enables them to hold the rock catches. On the other hand, they avoid the firns, where they are inserted much, as well as the forests of low altitude.
The adult can jump more than 6 meters in length and gallop to about 70 km/h on flat ground.
Appeared there is nearly 30000 years, the ibex abounded in europe until XVIe century. But it too strongly haunted. Little being wary, it was a target of choice. The species failed well to disappear.
About year 1820, there remained only a hundred individuals. Its saver was the king Victor-Emmanuel II who made it protect in a private reserve from hunting from the valley from Aoste (Italy). This population of Gran Paradiso allowed to repopulate all Alps. One counts more than 40000 today.
In Switzerland In 1953, the first three ibexes are reintroduced in the area of the Vanil-Noir. Three males, coming from the Bernese Alps, which conquer little by little the allocated territory.
One finds also ibexes in Nubie: The ibex of Nubie (Capra ibex nubiana) is one of the most frequently mentioned animals in the Bible, but it failed well to disappear from Palestine. Thirty years ago, they remains no more than 150 ibexes. The prohibition of hunting reversed the tendency. Today, they are more than one thousand on Palestin and Israel-territories unit. Today it is more common than everywhere else
