[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
While walking across the Lek Yuen Bridge in Shatin I saw this 'heron' sitting on a rusting pipe.

I thought it might be a Great White Heron, because of its long, thick, yellow bill.

I also have another shot of this bird in flight, holding its neck in an 'S' curve, which is another identification mark.

The 'Great White Heron' is a white morph of the 'Great Blue Heron' , Ardea herodias.

This is the first photo uploaded for Hong Kong / China, since the Trek Nature site was launched two weeks ago. I do hope that better nature photographers will add their China photos here - soon!

Tech: Taken at full zoom, cropped, resized and sharpened.

very nice one Andrew,
I like the composition you made, The heron looking to the water, looking for food. Very nice. Good job

I have made a little WS for the noise, and I hope you like it.

Very good Andrew
As Jaap says its a good composition, you place the bird right.
Well done

I can here this heron singing "My Bonny lies over the ocean" with that distant look. The water has small waves on it , but is also strangely smooth. Good work at capturing this and for sharing.

Hi Andrew
Nice compo her, bird on the sweet spot in the frame too. The face is just a tad soft. As for morphs, they generally have the same name. Depending on the country, the same birds have different names, hence you need the Latin name to be sure.

Nice picture Andrew, the focus is a little soft on the bird (great bird though) and I think the image would be imporved by rotating so the bricks(?) that the bird is standing on were level in the frame. I like the spacious crop. Well done.

I did a workshop too. Hope you like it.

Hermosa ave Andrew.
Muy buena composicion y perspectiva.
Coincido con Callie sobre la suavidad de los rasgos de la cara.
Bien hecho de todas formas.

Beautiful bird Andrew.
Very good composition and perspective.
I agree with Callie on the smoothness of the trait of the face.
Well done in any case.

Nice catch Andrew of the classical heron posing, with the elegant bird well placed in the frame. Slightly grainy overall, but very nice to see the first shot of this kind from HK. Well done.

Very nice model this White Heron Andrew, I find this a good cropped, with excellent of colours, well done!

I like the monochromatic feel that we become 'unfooled' by the yellow bill. The grain adds to the image that feeling of a (colorized) black & white image.

Andrew, Nice shot of this heron. It is quite noisy. The WS with noiseninja improves that quite a bit. Composition is pleasant.
Greetings, Jan

A strong composition,with nice POV,I like it,Nicely done,Andrew.
it could be better with Neat Image, but still,a very good shot.
