[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After leaving the dry dusty desert, I continued the latter half of my well-earned holiday in the moist forests of north-eastern New South Wales. So over the next couple of weeks, Iíll present some images from this area of diverse forests with some interesting inhabitants and environments.
First stop was New England National Park where I camped from several days with one of my daughters who I had picked up on the way. This national park ranges from 300 Ė 1600m and has some impressive forests, great scenery, great camping areas and of course a good range of walking tracks to explore.

This is a long-legged fly from the Family Dolichopodide and is a Sciapus sp. about 6mm long. This family has about 320 species in Australia and their most distinctive features are their long legs and metallic green bodies. The wings only have one prominent cross vein and a reduced set of horizontal veins, the tip of the abdomen is folded underneath the body, but I couldnít find out what the significance of this adaptation is. They were fairly numerous in the open eucalypt forest around Wollomombi Falls but we didnít see them elsewhere in the park.
Thanks for looking.

Great looking fly, Chris! I like its shinning like emerald body, long legs looks good also ;-) Dried leaf made nice BG. Good work!

A very fine macro shot, Chris. Excellent details and good tones of colours. A great capture, very well done.

HI Chris, it's a good macro.
The green colours are amazing. Well composed and good POV.
It's a bit OOF but I think it's ok for the little S1.
Very well done.

Chris, I often see similar ones here, but they're a very difficult subject.

I like composition and pov. Great colors and bg too. I have the feeling that focus is a little bit soft, but, maybe, some USM could be a solution.

Hi Chris,
very nice metallic colour, and the complementary reddish tones in the BG make it stand out even more.
Not much detail, but I guess that is difficult with the S1.
A bit of noise (esp. colour noise) is visible in the dark bits of the BG and shadow.
The shadow gives a very nice effect, well done!

Hi Chris,
Amazing metallic green colors in the fly! I love his perfect shadow under him, and the great contrast of color in the leaf.

Hi Chris,
Interesting capture!
Great lighting and amazing colours.
Well done!
