Another post from spring time today. Flies - everyone knows them, most of us hate them :-) But flies can be also beautifull. On TN we've got many great pictures of Syrphidae, especially from Paul or Gert. Bottom left on my picture belongs to Syrphidae, but I can't ID it. Two upper photos are also mystery for me. These flies are well known and very common. My favourite is bottom right. This one looks like Darth Vader from insects' world :-) I love its shape and black colours. This is probably Hemipenthes morio. In Polish it is called Zalobnica which means (she)mourner. If I remember correctly from my Latin lessons 'morio' means something related to death. I checked few dictionaries on I-net and surprise - according to one of them 'morio' means fool or jester. Hmmm...I don't know, morio sounds too ominously to means jester ;-) This fly is about 4-12 mm long and its larvae are parasities of butterflies' larvae. Hemipenthes belongs to Bombyliidae - Bee flies. This is rather shy fly. I found it on concrete road in The Botanic Garden and tried many times to take good photo. This one is my best.

Wonderful photo, composition and technically wise! Thanks for sharing - Xplorator Radu

Hey Greg! Some pretty flies here. I see what we call a Blowfly top left; and a horse fly, top right. Paul will know the hoverfly I'm sure, but Darth Vader is very new to me. Good collage you have put togther. Well done my friend...

Hi Greg, I see you had the same idea as I. ;-)
(you have a good archive)
You have made an another excellent collage with great pictures. Excellent. My favorite is the yellow/black fly. Thanks for posting.

Very nice montage of these fantastic detailed flies, I especially like the quality of the top right and the bottom left. The bottom right fly is pretty cool looking. :)

Witam, ładna kompozycja, nie wiem czy nie lepeij byłoby każdego odzielnie:D
Ale jest super i chyba każdy wie że jeżeli sie robi makro muchy to nie jest łątwo...:)

Nice collage of flies Greg. Perfect details and colors.

I don't like flies but on your photos they look almost friendly :-)

Hi Greg,
Excellent montage on the flies. All have sharp detail and great colors. As much of a pest as they are, you wish they were around when it is so cold.

I have a hate-love relation with this kind of insects. I hate them in my house, I love them here on TN.

Regards, Petru

Great 4-some of these flies, detail in all if the images is very nice and the species are easily identified this way (although not by me... ;-). Lovely composition although it's a shame the bottom right one isn't sitting on a nice juicy leaf.

Hi Greg,
Good detail and colours. Great POV and sharpness.
Nicely composed and good exposure.
Thanks for posting. Enjoy the rest of the week.
