Forever Summer

Just for all you Northern Hemisphere friends, this is what it is like in FIJI, practically every day, all year round.

This is where we spent a week's holiday last NZ winter - that's the best time to get away from the cold and taste the hot weather...

Don’t you just love the view from the lookout hill on Mana Island, in the Fiji Islands? Here you can see the changing colours of the darker Pacific Ocean and the lighter, greener waters of the lagoon within the coral reef. In the distance you can see the mainland of Fiji, Viti Levu, and closer still on the right is the island of Castaway. As you can see the weather was perfect, sun all day, no clouds, hot, with a slight cooling breeze. P E R F E C T!!!

Castaway is another superb place to have a holiday. Many years back we took our two youngest on holiday there and had an unforgettable time. Back in those days there was a bargain price offered - $1 per year in age, so it cost us $25 to fly them both up with us and stay in a bure together. We paid extra for their food, but it was a price we couldn’t turn down – and we ALL still talk about that holiday.

Fiji is an archipelago of over 300 islands (about 100 are inhabited) scattered across 200,000 square miles of ocean. The islands are primarily volcanic in origin with high rugged terrain. Other smaller islands are of coral or limestone origin. The largest island and population centre is Viti Levu, and Fiji's international airport is located at Nadi in the north-west. Fiji is blue lagoons, stunning white beaches, colourful fish-filled reefs, lush forests, and is home to around 780,000 friendly people. The population consists of approximately 50% Fijians, 46% Indians with the remainder being European, Rotuman, Chinese, and other Pacific Islanders.

Fiji enjoys a warm and pleasant temperature throughout the year - average 72°F / 22Cin the mild, dry season of May through October, and 78.5°F / 26C in the warm, wetter season of November through April. Dress for Fiji is cool and casual.

Yes, this is perfect place Janice! I love colours of palms, of ocean, of sky! It looks like dream for me, especially now, during black and white times. I remember when I was young I read many books written by famous sailors - about tropical island, beaches and coral reef. One of them was titled Moana and your photo looks like taken from this book. Beautifull!

Hello Janice, that is the best climate for me. I have an ill lung. :-(
Janice, this is a wonderful landscape. Great colours, excellent sharpness and details, a very nice composition. I love this picture. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Janice!!!
Thinking about Fiji I hate Lodz and living here.

Hi Janice,

This picture is really nice, maybe I'll become a beach bumm in Fiji. :) The composition of the picture works for me; thanks for sharing this scene with us.

This is a place where most of us are dreaming to spend at least the holydays. But that's almost impossible so we have to be content with your beautiful photo.

Regards, Petru

Very nice seascape.Large DOF,POV,colors, framing and composition are wonderful.TFS...:-)

Hi Janice,
A VIEW TO DIE FOR! The house for sale sign goes up today. Quitting my job, and selling my possession to move to this place. This is not fair, you drive me crazy when you post these stunning shots of paradise. I love this scene! Stop teasing me like this!

Really, do you have to tell me that right now, I just watched the weatherforecast. It has been wet and sodden and windy all day, a winter storm is coming and tomorrow there will probably be snow.
Beautiful photo, makes me wish I was on holiday again. Beautiful colours of the ocean!

Hi Janice,
Very nice landscape. Good Pacific colors. Wish to be there.

What a contrast with the weather here. Yesterday we add the biggest snow storm since 30 years. Near 2 foot of snow with strong winds and I was outdoor at Ecomuseum with wolves, foxes, caribous, otters, lynxes, etc. under the falling snow. A memorable day!
Personal assessment of the photo: excellent.
Capacity of evocation in me: good.
Strong visual impact.
Personal assessment of the note: complete. You write very well about the paradise. There would not be a little nostalgia in these words?
Thank you very much Janice. A great post!
Kia ora and cheers.

Hello Janice,

Another wonderful summery and beautiful landscape from you.

Right now I could use some of this, as I trod through knee deep snow and frozen terrain.

It will take until the middle of July to thaw... :-)

Thank you for this lovely vision!

Terrific photo of Fiji, looks like something from the early 1800's without any roads or modern building. Your descriptive notes are good. Please post more like this. Creative POV.
