Martha, is that my son? Henry, how can you doubt me!

This was shot late afternoon against the shadow of a koppie (Hill). I find the interaction between species interesting when they are at food or water.

Waterbuck
The Waterbuck also known as "Hirschantilope" in German, translated as "Deer antelope". The Waterbuck's physique resembles that a deer and similar in size to a Red deer: Waterbucks reach lengths of more than 200 cm and weights of 250 kg - females are smaller than males. The horns, males only, are up to 100 cm long and slightly curved to the front. The Waterbuck's hair is long, straggly and of different brownish shades. It is permanently greased with an oily, water-repellent secretion of the perspiratory glands.

Greasing of hair is significant for the Waterbucks' ecology, since they prefer living near lakes and rivers and like entering the water. They are good swimmers, which try to escape into the water when hunted by Lions, Leopards or African hunting dogs. Their habitat is Africa's savannahs and sparse forests along the rivers. The best-known species are the Common-(Kobus ellipsiprymnus ellipsiprymnus) &the Defassa waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus defassa).

Waterbucks have social structures. There are separate female groups as well as male groups, consisting of up to 30 members. Adults are territorial and defend an area of 60 to 250 h. The most sought-after spots are near the water. These areas offer the best security to their owners and are most attractive to females, which "visit" the males within their territory to mate with them. Returning to their female group they give birth to mostly a single young after a pregnancy of around nine months. The newborn doesn't follow its mother from the beginning. It lies hidden in the long grass apart from its mother and is visited by her to feed. The young joins its mother at 1 month old. At 9 mnths the young Waterbucks leave their mothers.

Well Japie an action shot, three in a roll.
Very good capture, it's not whole sharp, but what can you expect. I really like the action in this good capture, and what a note. Very good job Japie

Very good and funny picture.
I like it.
Very good note.

Great scene, Japie, indeed with some inherent humor in it. Good posing of the waterbuck and the ostrich, and good to see the young one in the back, between the two foreground actors. Well lit and contrasted, and great job on the note again.

superbe scène de ménage Japie.
tres orginale et pas commune.
la note est aussi un bon mordeau.
bravo

Nice altercation at the feeding point Japie, and a funny title. I liked your note to. your overall exposure lets you down on this picture, but the action pulls it off.

Excelente y oportuno disparo Japie.
Aunque falta algo de nitidez, me agrada... colores duros, encuadre atinado.
Bien hecho.

Excellent and opportune firing Japie.
Although lack something of clearness, I please to me... hard colors, accurate frame.
Well done.

Japie, nice moment captured here. Funny story. Sharpness not perfect. Still interesting though. Thanx for sharing.

A wonderful capture, Japie. It made me laugh - but only because my wife isn't around!! You photo brings new meaning to the phrase 'hen-pecked' husband. Good action. Well seen.
