Happy New Year, dear friends at TN!

Rhodostrophia vibicaria (Clerck, 1759)
Family: Geometridae

Thank you Paulo and Nigel, for telling me the ID!

Near the small village of Oberweiden, some 30 kilometres to the east of Vienna, sand dunes formed during ice age have left a hilly area unsuitable for any kind of agriculture. The barren hills covered with bushes and dry grassland are a perfect retreat for plants and animals of unusual diversity, some of them rare and endangered species. On June 10, 2004, I captured this small day active geometrid moth with fine colours and line drawings. Wingspread approx. 35mm.

Digital Camera: Minolta Dimage 7Hi with integrated zoom and macro.

Very beautiful moth, Peter. I don't know what it is, but I like the suble colors and the pink "skirt". Very sharp details and great POV. Well done and TFS. : )

Very good photo of this moth!
Sharp and clear!
Wonderful colours!
Very good POV!
Nice BG too.
I think the specie is a Rhodostrophia vibicaria (Clerck, 1759), from the Geometridae Sterrhinae family.
Take a look at:

Peter:
A nicely taken shot of this pretty species, correctly identified by Paulo. They are very variable, but this is a nicely marked example. Yes there's background noise, but this is easily corrected by selective masking and noise reduction, and the result is very good. I've done a quick workshop to show the potential improvement.
Regards, Nigel.

Hola Peter: Very beautiful the clear tones and the soft wavy contrast of this Rhodostrophia vibicaria, me never to have seen something as this, the hairy details are very well captured. I like the diversity and coloring of your lepidopteras, I hope to comment soon, other pictures of your beautiful collection of great coloring that catch my attention. Happy weekend. Cordial greetings. *Ninfa Urania*
