Yesterday was beautifull day - full of sunshine and frost. I grabbed my cam and went to Zdrowie Park to take few pictures of white trees and macros of ice crystals. But firs I found something like squirrels' [and nature photographers' ;-)] paradise. Big, old trunk full of nuts, seeds, lardons etc. Place where old ladies and small childrens brings food for frozen animals. I hid near bush and waited. I hadn't to wait long - many animals came for dinner. Six squirrels which were absolutelly fantastic - not shy at all, loudy and dynamic. Birds which were more shy - jays, blackbirds, tits and something similiar to chaffinch, but I'm not 100% sure what it was. I took many pictures of this eating bunch. Unfortunattely at home I realised that for small, dynamic birds compact cam isn't best choice - most pictures are blurred :-( 1/250 is too long for these fast movers. Anyway - next weekend I'll visit this place again, maybe with better results.

Popular-culture references:

Despite periodic complaints about the animal as a pest, general public opinion towards the animal is favorable, thanks to its attractive appearance and graceful movement, and its habit of gathering and storing nuts. Squirrels are popular characters in cartoons and children's books, such as the works of Beatrix Potter. A less typical fictional squirrel is Secret Squirrel. A cartoon squirrel named Tammy was a memorable one-shot character on the Disney Afternoon's Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers. Marvel Comics has a superheroine called Squirrel Girl. Some others are used in internet cartoons for added humor, such as Foamy the Squirrel.

Albino squirrels are thought by some to be a source of good luck. Olney, Illinois, is home of the world's largest known albino-squirrel colony. The Albino Squirrel Preservation Society was founded in 2001 at the University of Texas at Austin to celebrate the proliferation of white and albino squirrels on campus. There are eight college chapters of the ASPS across the United States, Canada, and England.

The word squirrelled, meaning to have hidden items away, is arguably the longest one-syllable word in the English language, although only in its American English pronunciation; in all British English accents it has two syllables.

Squirrels are often refered to as "tree rats" or "harveys" by people who dislike them and consider them pests. The word "Squirrel" is sometimes used to describe someone who is a 'goof' or 'clown' (i.e., he is a squirrel or is squirrelly).

Witaj Grzegorzu,
No niestety miałem bardzo długą przerwę w odwiedzinach tego portalu. Mam zamiar pokazać serię kilku kwiatków, które beda sie ukazywały co dwa lub trzy dni. A Twoja fotografia?

Excellent sharpness and detail Greg. Very good DOF. The tight crop composition works well here, although I think a smidge more space in front would be better.
Great pose with the fluffy tail huggin' the body this way. Very well done.
Thank You!

very nicely captured. Great job..

Cool shot.
Perfect focus.
The details of the fur especially on the tail is amazingly done.
Superb pic !!!

Hello Greg
Sorry, no time for a decent critique today, but I like the picture very much :)

Brilliant capture Greg,
Good detail, colours and sharpness.
Composition and exposure are good. Good POV and framing.
Thanks for posting, Have a great week.

Excellent detail and colour, i find it just a little tight in the frame, could do with more space in front of the squirrel.

Fantastyczna wiewióra ;-)))))
Chciałabym miec taką kitę~!

Wow.... this guy is right off the cute scale Greg. Nice array of colour with the feed at his feed. Crisp, clear and sharp. Nicely composed. TFS.

Grzegorz, I have never seen one of them.

Excellent colors, exposure and pov.

I like composition too.

Excellent sharpess and details.

Hello Greg, excellent picture and your note too! Congrats. I really like this picture very much. (In my garden is often a squirrel - however no chance to picture)
Typical Squirrel picture - excellent sharpness, details and great colours. This is a wonderful composition. Thank you Greg.
Have a great week.

Hello Greg,

I had to laugh at your note, in this country if you go to a park and hide in the bushes, you can be arrested... :-D

I love this funny, fluffy looking squirrel and its color.

Your photo shows him in the classic pose and is sharp and well composed.

Excellent job, thank you!

Out of all the squirrels I find this one the most attractive species, you have catured an excellent side profile with great detail. Well done Grzegorz. :)
