[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Mother Nature doesn't care about the human society's values, tabus and taste. Many living things look strange, ugly, grosse or scarry for the "cultivated" man. However, every strange feature, shape, colour, behaviour of a living thing has its important role in the survival and adaptation of a specie.

So here it is Phallus impudicus, from Phallaceae family.
For those who know some latin, it's easy to see what the latin name means and why.
In English is called Stink Horn. I'm not gonna tell you the Romanian name because it is a bit too ... graphic.

This mushroom is quite common in may-september in the deciduous forests around here, growing up to 15-20 cm. On the very young stage it resembles an egg, that later sends an empty inside stem, having a porous consistence, with a olive - brown fertile part on top.
The fertile part has a sap full of spores on it. It smells strong, rooten flesh like, sometime one can sense it from 100 m away. It will atract, of course, flies that will be traped for a short time in the sap, than when they escape they carry the mushroom's spores away.

Some people take this mushroom as edible when young ("egg" stage), therfore they cook it. Others say it produces upset stomach and is mildly poisonous.
Anyway I not trust eating this specie, especially when the forests are full of much delicious mushrooms.

Interesting photo. Definitely caught my eye for the obvious reason. The photographers note is very descriptive and educational.

Ahhh, I think you nailed the title here Petru..
Great sharpness, detail and color. Very good note also. Well done.
Thank You!

Great note!
I like the colours and composition!

hi petru. I like the title and it and truth which the name of this mushroom goes very well with its forme.belle photograph.

Great title. Your title is just as great as its name in Latin . Si totusi cum ii spune in romaneste ca eu tot nu stiu, am vazut si auzit de "basina calului" dar de asta nu.

Bonjour Petru,
thank you for explanations, you already informed me about that specie, but this completes a lot. Thank's for sharing!

MotherNature getting a little kinky on us here Petru... Do you think she has a sense of humor?
Everything about the picture is well done except the exposure which is a little on the indecent side...
Excellent note!

Well earned smile now, critique later :-)

Hello Petru,
Very nice mushroom shot. Colorfull with very good sharpness and very good details. Great composition and note too. Very good job. WEll done. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent title for this interesting fungi. It looks so penile (LOL).
Despite your warning, I would love to know whatthe Romanian name is and what it means, cultural interpretation is just part of nature.
The shot is great. We have similar species in Australia, but I have not seen one yet.
Well done and good note.

Hi Petru,
Great macro fungi shot with excellent focus, colors, pov, dof and note.TFS

Hi Petru!

This forest must be a paradise for women and ...
Jokes appart, is a good sharp and well exposed image. I only felt it slightly flat and I guess it's the old Zenit lens. I did a WS to apply Multi-coating to your lens.
Good work and TFS.

Hello Petru,

Where´s the guy, under earth?...ha, ha, ha.
interesting mushroom, I dont´t know it.
Good colors, light and composition. good note as well.
I think have a similar lens of mine, an old Zenith.

Always a good subject, although to get a good macro, you will have a smell effort.
A very descriptive shot, with good angle, light and distributed colors make a good composition.
I have a really impudicus one, I will post for you :)

Hi Petru
When I saw this photo on the thumbnail my immediate thoughts was; "Who is trying to be funny?" Then I noticed the title, and I had a closer look at the thumbnail, and I realized that maybe nature is trying to tell us something (in its own unique way) about how we rape this lovely planet of ours. I've heard the real (natural) item is sometimes called a "violator", and that seems to fit with the message that Janice Dunn (jancie) conveyed with her posting of "Nature at its Worst".

I'm not sure if it is just my monitor, but it seems to be a touch low on saturation & contrast. In my personal opinion I think the workshop by Alain Thibodeau (Athila) underlined this aspect.

Very well done on the composition, DOF, and the "angle" of the note. TFS.

I was going to say "I like it" but may sound homosexual - ha ha
Good photography and great description. Keep up the good work.

Nice shot and great title, Petru. This is an indecent exposure indeed :o)
Congratulations and TFS, friend.
