This captive Barn Owl belongs to the Mid-Wales Falconry Centre.

I've taken a few shots of Magic in the past, but this is my favourite due to the lighting and the fact that I decided to use part of the village to create a backdrop rather than the more obvious field of crops.

Apologies for not posting, but I've been busy and forgot my membership number and everything. I was reminded yesterday by Miles (peskypolecat). Hopefully I can post a bit more regularly now and more importantly view and critique others work

Barn Owl (Tyto alba)
The world's most widespread owl, found through most of Europe.

33-36cm (12.5 - 14in). Most often seen quartering fields at Dusk. Western and Southern form identified by white underparts, Eastern forms have spotted buff underparts. Flat face with dark ring around white facial disc.

Found in extensive areas of rough grassland with copses. Nests in barns and other artefacts.

Beautifully composed and exposed - you would never guess it was a captive bird. Well done in avoiding the temptation to oversharpen the image, too. It looks much nicer with that subtle softness of texture. Lovely shot.
Regards, Nigel.

wonderful shot! very good light and compo.

An excellent picture. Although you say it was a captive bird you have managed to present it in a totally natural way. No evidence of the leather jesses or people and the light gives the impression of early dusk when these birds naturally come out to hunt. Thanks for sharing it with us.

very very nice shot...congratulation...

Wonderful portrait of a beautiful Barn Owl. The warm light brings out the golden plumage very nicely. Great DOF and balance in this composition. Well Done.
