[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
DOF is a precious commodity in macro work since it's in short supply.

DOF is governed by a set of rules. The first is that it is equal to the square of the subject distance. The second is that it is inversely proportional to the square of the focal length and the third is that the DOF doubles every time the aperture is made one stop smaller. So, since in macro work you're generally not using wide-angle lenses and the subject distance is very short, DOF will be down to millimeters. This makes that stop you lost to your extension tube not such a big deal since you'll want to stop down anyway.

In this case we have an aperture of F13
The focal length was 300 mm.
The distance from the subject 100 Cm. aprox.

With THIS online free DOF calculator I got the following results:

Near limit of acceptable sharpness: 99.8 cm
Far limit of acceptable sharpness: 100.2 cm

Total depth of field: 0.38 cm
Depth of field in front of subject: 0.19 cm (50%)
Depth of field behind subject: 0.19 cm (50%)

Hyperfocal distance: 37330.3 cm

Circle of confusion for selected format: 0.019 mm

I found this info HERE, where you will find a great info about macro photography.

PP: Only crop, levels, USM & frame.

Hope you like!

Hello Felipe!
Excellent close4 up.I liked POV,DOF you managed,
colors,blurred BG,framing and composition a lot.
Enjoy with your new camera and lens.TFS...:-)

Yes, I can see how narrow your depth of field here, Felipe. It works well to really give attention to the insect. Nice work!

WOW Felipe!
Perfect control of DOF!
Excellent on details!
Very GOOD job!
Very good POV too!
Keep on going!

Hi Cristina and Felipe,
this post is lovely. First I had to laugh when I read the headline - very good idea ;-)
And the shot is wonderful, blurred - sharp - blurred. An excellent demonstration of DOF - even when it has an other sound here - Depth of Fly - so cool!
Thanks and have a pretty weekend, bye

Hi Felipe,
Excellent capture!
The depth of field works very well,
and the subject is sharp and detaled.
Thanks for sharing!

Very interesting shot!
Great idea for the picture and the note.
Fly is very sharp and the ring of the focus area looks great.
I like it.

Nice note Felipe. Some tecnical stuff. This photo shows the DOF ring very clearly. I like the effect. The dteails are sharp. Very well done.

Very well illustrated and very useful.

Great job and thanx for sharing

This is a cool shot the capture the fly right in the focal zone with nothing else in focus. Great capture Felipe. :)

Hello Felipe.
Excellent. Superb! I applaud you. Congratulations.
