I am not sure if this bee-eater (I am not sure as I not a bird-man) was singing and early morning melody or gaping for breath in the extreme summer heat and humidity of the African bush. It was middle of summer, so either one could be correct. I snapped away through the branches, not noticing a herd of buffalo silently approaching from my rear. They noticed me and I them and all got the same fright I think. The birdie just carried on as if nothing happened. I could have told him...it nearly did!

Great shot! Lovely colours and composition. The branches frame the head nicely.

Nice picture Nico or this interesting looking bird!

Hi Nico,
You caught him really exercising his lungs here. The pose is excellent. Good spot on exposure in the shade with the nice saturated colors. Detasil and DOF look excellent. Nice shot!

hi nico
c'est un peu dommage que l'oiseau soit un peu caché mais il a vraiment de belles couleurs.good POV.

Probably a Madagascar Bee-eater, Merops superciliosus.
Good shot through the underbrush, at an angle that lets us freely view the head and most of the body, with only a few branches infront. Well done!

Hola Nico,
good photo, I love the birds pose and the background is very "natural"

This is a Southern Carmine Bee-eater - a summer visitor to Botswana.

Good capture of this bird especially since it was not out in the open - I like the catchlight in its eyes from the flash.
