Taken on the very last night of our Christmas holiday, this is a night time photograph to show the stillness of time and mounatins, but the movement of water...

It is 361 second exposure at F/3.5. I was still experimenting with the settings and timing when the cloud became too heavy and the moon not enough to be able to continue, so have had to increase the brightness a touch.

This was the view from the back of our tent! The mountain is probably Bidean nam Bian (1150m).

The sky effect was caused by whispy cloud edges being highlighted by a full moon. As you can see, they were passing quite quickly. When the full moon was visible, it lit up the area superbly, highlighting the river in the foreground. Look more carefully and you will see the valley and the snow of the tops. The lightness of the foreground was caused by the campsite lights.

The picture has been converted from RAW, and brightened 1EV. I have toned down the red slightly to compensate for the orange 'street' lights in the campsite behind the camera.

I left the camera on ISO 100 because I wanted to express the stillness of the area with a long exposure, but by the time I had taken 4 or 5 shots, I and the camera battery were very cold (again (-8C)) and my evening meal was ready. By the time the clouds had broken and the moon was visible again, the moon had moved round too far to re-create the shot on a different ISO.

I just hope it isn't too dark on your monitors to appreciate it.

I like your photographies, but this in special, has great interest, harmony chromatic and a perfect one and balanced composition. We will follow your passages of fence.

Hello Emma, very nice composition. I love the long exposure. It's a very good idea. I think the foregound could be a little brighter, maybe a garduated filter could have helped a little here. I've done a quick WS using shadows and highlights to bring out some details. Nice shot.
