[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Salmon return to their river of birth to spawn often after many years and an ocean journey of thousands of kilometers. This completes the "cycle of life" as they die following spawning. This "spent" (dead) salmon was photographed in shallow water in the Capilano River in North Vancouver, BC. You can see scratches on his skin where he rubbed against the rocks on his journey upstream. Luckily I was able to photograph him before the bears showed up.
