Hogfish ???

I am not quite sure what it is but I used to joke calling it “CHICKENPOX FISH”.

In fact I believe it is a member of the Hogfish family, but I am not really sure. If anybody can help?

I took this picture in the Red Sea and the fish seemed to be eating coral, at least he has teeth for it.

I know you will say that I cut the tail. Believe me it’s not that easy to frame trough the small eye piece of an old SLR and trough a face mask underwater. I consider myself lucky enough to get it in focus.

Très joli poisson. On dirait qu'il a la varicelle. La netteté est excellent. L'exposition aussi. C'est une image très bien réussie. Bravo.

What a strange, but interesting looking fish, Alain.
It is fun to see the different patterns on him throughout his body, going from pink polka dots to parallel wavy lines. The colors are stunning. I like the POV with the fish "erupting" from the side of the frame. TFS. : )

Hello Alain,
nice photo, colours, and compo, TFS.
Best wishes,

Hi Alain,
The composition is just fine. The colors are very vivid. I am amazed at the clarity of the water and detail in your underwater shots.
They are always excellent!

The colours and beautiful markings of these fish amaze me Alain. Despite the crop its a very fine capture with excellent sharpness. Very good work.

Alain tes photos sousmarines me font vraiment "triper" la technique est toujours superbe et les résultats sont superbes ! Bravo, la difficulté de photographier sous l'eau est d'autant plus méritoire. Merci.

Excellent shot, lovely image, like the colour and comp. on this photo..

Hi Alain
This is a very interesting and beautiful fish. You do not mention its size and since I can not deduct that from its surroundings it would be nice if you can advice me on the matter.
As you have mentioned the cutting of the tail, yes it is a pity, but it is no train smash. Your description of the difficulties surrounding underwater photography is sufficient reason to make one understand that the result is actually stunning. I for one can not better your effort so who am I to judge it by armchair standards.
The composition is great, the colours are marvellous , the DOF is superb showing excellent details on the fish, and the exposure was perfect.
Very well done and TFS.

Hi Alain,
What interesting array of colors and patterns you have in this one..The body shape & structure reminds me of what we called a "sheepshead", when I fished in Southern California years ago..Very good detail, DOF, POV, light & color here..Easy to see why you gave it the "chickenpox" :))
Very well done and TFS!

Beautiful exposure on this really nice capture. It would have more appeal if the whole fish was in the picture, but hey that's just my opinion, other than that it's excellent Alain. I hope to see more of your underwater adventures. Why doesn't Cannon or Nikon make a profesional underwater digital camera? Seems like that would be a good idea, I would definitely buy one. :)

Bizarre looking fish, it even has a pink spot on its eye, LOL!

Great capture.
