My first insect this year on a narcissus flower!! It's the burst of spring!!
Order: Coleoptera
Familly:Meloidae
Genre Meloe, Blister beetles or Oil beetles.
These curious coleopters are vegetarians in an adult state and do not have membranous wings. The large corpulent females lay their eggs on the ground. When the larvae (called triongulins) emergent, they go up on the flowers (in particular the dandelion) and there await the arrival of a bee. While the bee butine, the small larva of Meloe clutches itself with the hairs of the bee and voyage to its nest in the ground. At this place, the larva eats the egg of bee and transforms itself into a bent blind larva resembling that of a cockchafer. It eats honey and grows bigger until becoming a third kind of larva which will transform itself into nymph then as an adult.

Hello Didier, good shot. Nice composition. I think the BG is a little over exposed on the petals and undeexposed on the beetle, a fill flash may have helped here. It's a good colourful composition. Well done.

Hi Didier,
Excellent macro! Nice saturated colors and sharp detail. Great sheen on the bug.

Hi Didier!
To see Meloe species in such place - it is not easy. Usually they just walking on the ground surface :) Picture is very colourful and interesting, and even if DOF would be a little better (especially if I compare it with your pictures of flying insects which are amazing :>) - I like it.
By the way, just for fun, please see < ahref="http://www.treknature.com/viewphotos.php?l=3&p=102500">here to see similar species, Meloe proscarabaeus :)
Have a vey nice Sunday and Merry Christmas!
