Another one of our wild pheasants, male. This one was harassing a female pheasant and also trying to feed himself at the same time.

He is one of 3 males in the area called our 'garden' (about 2.5 acres which on the whole is for wildlife not us - veg patch is the exception). 2 of the males, this one incldued are still fighting it out as to who gets the females.

He is a big bird and whenever a female is around, he fluffs himself up to make himself even bigger. He also enlarges himself whenever another male is around and at this time of year, the fights really start...

Info on pheasants
This is a Phasianus colchicus torquatus. In English, these birds were introduced from China (the white collar gives it away). The birds introduced from Asia don't have the white collar. Britain has both sub species and they interbreed.

This picture was taken as it was getting very dark, so it is a higher ISO than I would have liked, hence the noise in the background. But I'm a work during the day, and was late home last night when this opportunity presented itself.

Converted from RAW, +0.5EV, cropped, resized and USM'ed. Colours are untouhed.

Hi Emma,
Chasing a female and eating at the same time, who said men can't multi-task?? :-) Nice detail and excellent colours, the patterns on these birds are so intricate, quite amazing really. Exposure is good too. It's a little grainy though.

Hi Emma, Great colorful photo. Perfect sharpness showing great details. Perfct capture composed and proccesed photo. TFS Kyle

Ciao Emma, very nice portrait!

Hi Emma!

Nice saturated colors, focus looks sharp and exposure is good. Soft light kept nice details in shadows as well as in highlights. Shallow DOF keeps attention on the bird. TFS.

Hello Emma!
Great composition, colors and details. Well done!

Hello Emma , What a beauty bird , his colours beautifull ,
good details pov and dof ,very good , tfs ,Greeting Teunie .

Hi Emma,
I have a very busy couple of days. But I can make just enough time for a quick visit to TN.
Great capture, thanks for posting. Have a great week.

Superb shot! The sharpness of the pheasant against the softened background gives the image great depth, almost a 3D feel. Colours are excellent. That little bit of light reflected in the eye is an added bonus. I often pass pheasants on the roadyway to/from work but I never get to see them this close.

Congtrats on the 1000th point!

A lot of colour makes for an interesting shot here. The BG is sufficiently distanced from the subject and also the POV and Composition are excellent and all combine to make a grat shot. TFS,
