[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I had an earlier post of this (or a similar) bird and assumed that it was the relatively common Blue and Gold Macaw. It is, instead, the endangered Blue Throated Macaw, one of the world's rarest parrots; probably around 100 pairs remain in the wild in north and east Bolivia. Up until the 1970s, it was assumed to be a variety of the blue and gold instead of a separate species.
The rarity of this Macaw makes it highly coveted in the international wild bird trade. Local trappers are well aware that it is worth a great deal of money to them, so they selectively seek live specimens.
A number of breeding and conservation schemes have been set up in zoos to save this species. Taken at the Cincinnati zoo.

Hi Greg,
A nice shot, excellent detail and colour. DOF is good and I like the composition with the body placed to the right of the frame, nice work.

Hi Greg
Very nice capture of this scarce bird. Although itís not a TN first there are not many postings of this species to be found.
Because of macawís size they are rather awkward to photograph. If one takes a full shot of it, it tends to be this thin long subject on the photo so it is understandable why most photos cut their tails off or itís just a head & shoulders portrait.
You did well in your composition to show a considerable portion of the bird though. The colours are warm, the DOF is good showing nice details, the BG is well removed and OOF, and the exposure was well managed.
Good work and TFS.
