Family: Nymphalidae วงศ์ขาหน้าพู่
Subfamily: Heliconiinae (Nymphalinae วงศ์ย่อยผีเสื้อกะทกรก?)
Genus: Cethosia
Species: Cethosia spp. (Lacewing)

Butterflies of this family are popularly known as the “Brush-footed butterflies”, one of the world’s largest and most widespread butterfly family. There are about 5,000 species of butterflies in this family.

These are typically fairly large butterfies, such as the emperor, admirals, tortoiseshells and fritillaries, which have very colourful wings. However, the underwings are dull and often look like dead leaves, which produces a cryptic effect that helps the butterfly disappear in its surroundings.

The front two legs are small, so these butterflies are effectively four-legged. The caterpillars are hairy or spiky, and the chrysalids have shiny spots.

This species, like Cethosia hypsea hypsina (The Malay Lacewing), depends on Passifloraceae (Passion Fruit Vines), for its caterpillar food plants.A favourite nectaring plant is Lantana camara (Prickly Lantana).
The species can be distiguished from the lookalike Malay Lacewing by the white submarginal band on the underside of the hindwing.
