[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Melanargia galathea - family Nymphalidae.

One of the most beautifull and large butterflies. The wingspan is up to 50 mm. The chequered wings looks rather like Pieridae butterfly but it isn't - it belongs to the family Nymphalidae (previously: Satyridae).
Usually it's available in July and August. The caterpilars you can find on different types of grass.

Hi Chris,
What I like most is that this photo could very easily pass for a B&W shot, were it not for the small purple plant on the LHS.
Great shot - well done

Piękny motyl! Świetnie pokazany. Ostro i wyraźnie. Gratulacje!

Don't think i've seen this species on TN before, quite spectacular.

Its always hard shooting them on the ground, but you've done quite well here. Good composition, POV and sharpness.

Excellent picture of a superb butterfly with nice black and white colors! Great composition and POV! The picture is very sharp with good exposure and DOF! Outstanding job! Congratulations and TFS!
