[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
There are two species of the genus Chazara in Europe. One of this, Chazara briseis, is shown on the picture. The species prefers warm ('hot'), sun-exposed and dry places and likes stony slopes with 'short' vegetation and rocky out-crops. On the latter it can be found collecting sun energy exposing its wings in the most suitable angle to the sun. Although widely distributed in middle and southern Europe, it is found very locally only. Towards its northern distribution limits populations are restricted in space and are often vulnerable or threatened due to potential anthropogenic disturbance of their 'small' habitats.
The picture was taken in Val Venosta (Vinschgau) in the vicinity of Tarces (Tartsch). Here you can find a population of C. briseis which is restricted to a small exposed hill. Besides collecting sun-energy, nectar sucking appears also important for this female C. briseis also called hermit.

Hello Peter,
Very good shot! I like the colours and POV, details on the butterfly are very good too. Maybe only the composition a little too centered.
Overall, well done on this one!

Hi Peter

Wonderful shot. Lovely depth of colour. Crisp, clear and sharp. Good light, POV and composition. Well done! :-)

Excellent picture! The colours are really natural, also sharpness is OK.

Very good photo of this Satyridae!
Very good POV and colours!
Very good DOF too!
5* and TFS!

Dit is een redelijk zeldzame vondst voor noord ItaliŽ.
Gefeliciteerd met je waarneming en mooie foto van deze soort die ook nog op mijn verlanglijstje staat.
Vr. gr. Harm Alberts
