The Flower of the Pumpkin. (Flor de Calabaza)

Some data on the 'Calabaza' (pumpkin):

Name common: Pumpkin
Family: Cucurbitáceas
Name scientific: Cucurbita pepo L (common pumpkin)

Habitat: It plants it would originate of Central America and cultivated in many places of the world.

Characteristic: Grass annual reptante of the family of the cucurbitáceas of up to 10 m. of longitude. Hirsute, grooved shafts. Leaves acorazonadas lobuladas. unisexual of up to 10 cm. with the chalice together to the corolla; the masculine ones with the stamens welded in column. Very variable fruit. (pumpkin or marrow)

The pumpkins are plants very sarmentosas (vineshoot) and that they specify much terrestrial for their normal growth, because they are developed horizontally. They possess pubescent leaves and unisexual flowers. The fruit is a pepónide of hard shell, and color and varied form according to the species that it is (lengthened, spherical or cylindrical); the color of the pulp also varies.

Due to the characteristics of the humid and fertile floor of the earth of Tabasco, the pumpkin plant to grow in natural form, from the month of August of 2004 me to be observing the growth of the pumpkin, the first thing that me to perceive is the form of the leaf, this it is similar to a heart, this plant to slither and to grow quickly and to extend in form horizontal many meters, approximately 8 meters. The first thing that me to observe in this plant is the insects that to pose on their leaves, among them one of the first ones is the damselfly that me to photograph called Carnivorus.

For a lot of time me to be observing the growth of the plant of pumpkins, it is interesting the variety of these insects that to parade for this beautiful gangplank: bees, wasps, green hornets, scarabs, dragonflies, ants, etc. This picture is of the last ones that me to take, I know that it is not my specialty the macros, but I believe that in some way the insects here shown they are interesting.

(in the following pictures I hope to present to each one of these insects in an individual way.)

Nice picture and a gret note, Ninfa.
I look forward to see your next ones on these beetles.

Thanks a lot.

Very good detail and focus. The insects are interesting. WOuld like to have heard something about them in the notes.
Good job

Interesting picture, even if the focus is a bit soft. I think you could have found a better POV.

It's a good shot & two for one Ninfa! I might've chosen a different POV but that's just my preference.. Great notes also. I see no shooting data so I can't critique further. :-(
