Yesterday morning (Title of song by John Denver) at about 7:40am taken directly into 'sun' on -2/3EV.

A familiar subject matter for anyone how knows my photos, but the light was just right and with a little underexposure (in camera) another beautiful landscape is born.

I'm still processing the photos of my orchids taken last night and this morning before the rains came, so thought I would return to landscapes...

Taken in RAW, converted to jpeg, cropped a touch, resized and sharpened. Colours are real.

I tried cropping out a little more of the sky to balance it a bit better (thirds etc) but it didn't have the same impact. Any thoughts?

Great atmosphere you created in this picture, the tones, the silhouettes and the layers at the far BG are all together combining to a very good picture.

Hi Emma, with my monitor this shot is wonderful!
I like a lot the different planes in the background.
Great grey scale. Congratulation.

Lovely capture Emma with pleasant tone and perfect composition. The more I study this the more I like it. Shall add this to my favorites, thank you.

Hi Emma,
Great tones with good use of silhouette and layers, a very nicely composed image.

Hello Emma,
Beautiful sad landscape! I love the sepia tones in this pic; the composition, light, silhouettes and BG are really great.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Emma,
Wow, a lovely view you had in the morning. A nice simple composition, nicely on the thirds and I really like the 'layering' effect on the horizon line. Excellent colours too, very nice shot.

Hi Emma,
Ver beautiful landscape. The sky light is really beautiful.

Beautiful composition, Emma.

Hi Emma , the thirds rule like all good rules is meant to be broken, I just love the shot and the subtle colour, my sort of photo I love trees looking like this.TFS yours Robert

Hi Emma,
Superb pictures, you got every tone sepia here, excellent work. I feel this photograph is great example of thirds rule!!! cant be much better.

Hi Emma,
Sorry no suggestions on a difference in crop. I don't feel one is needed and believe that the rule of thirds can something be broken for it.
Excellent work on the exposure and on the POV. Love the little layers in the forrest and the colors of the sky.

Hi Emma...
Multiple layers make this landscape a beautiful backdrop for the majestic old tree!
The atmosphere is awesome, colours almost unbelieveable...

Hello Emma,
A lovely shot.
Very atmospheric and well composed, nice subtle tones.
Excellent work.

Hi Emma,
No I dont think there was any necessity to crop out more of the sky.The cut is very distinct in my opinion and the sky adds a lot of emotion and atmosphere.Lovely silhoette with a feeling of calm, silence...tranquility.
Very nice.
Regards, david

A very nice shot. The profile and the color are great. But what really takes a while to sink in is the detail in the village in the background. So I think this shot can stand on its own, especially in an 11 x 14 inch print. But it might also be worth trying to do a second shot with a tighter crop on the tree and the village so we can appreciate it in our 800 pixel environment. (I tried it but I'm not sure it works. Of course, I'm looking at 550 pixels then!)

It looks pretty near perfect to me . I am trying to shoot more in raw mode but having some difficulty . I guess practice makes perfect and you are near perfect in this photo . The 1/3 world works extremely well and the colors are magic like .congratulations , jim

Hi Emma,
I think the composition and framing on this look excellent as is. The silhouette of the tree, and the toning of the shot give it a very moody feel. Very nice work.

Hello Emma!

Excellent control on shades showing at least 4 planes (levels) of depht (5 if you include sky).
Sharpness is excellent on the three, and composition is well balanced as an applicaition of the rule of thirds.

Great shot and TFS

Hi Emma !

Great Composition, and colours. it really is a great pic. the silhouette and contrasting colours make it great.

Hello Emma..

A wonderful nice morning, with a lot of mystique and soul to it. I like the sky as it is:) Good DOF. Nice lines.. Beautiful.

Not much I can say other than perfect - the subtle tones in the sky - the layers of landscape and the striking tree. Excellent.

Hello Emma. Great composition and excellent contrast. I just love these kind of pictures with silhouettes, and yours has a very special atmosphere because of the pastel colors. Regards, Yvonne

I like the layering in the distance!
Great DoF! And love the use of sepia.
