[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The purple Thorn, Selenia tetralunaria, is a geometrid moth, yet it rests with wings partly folded above the body, as butterflies often do. In most parts of its range, the Thorn has two generations annually, which differ markedly in terms of size and color : The spring brood, (this one) is larger and has brighter colors.
Its latine name, meaning "four moons", refers to the four white crescents visible from both sides of the wings.
The photo was shot with an external flash equipped with a home made diffusor, at high speed and with the highest possible F number the camera would allow.

Hello Philippe,
perfectly taken close up of this pretty, well camouflaged geometrid with its lovely hairy body. I have seen this geometrid many times, and I never had an idea of the ID.
Very appealing colours - those very subtle soft shades of red and yellow hues against a grey background look very fine.
Excellent shot. Thank you!
Peter

Hi Philipe,
This is much much better than the previous one. I loved the pose of the moth and the fine BG.
I made a workshop for the photo, I hope you like it.

Perfect job Philippe
Great colors and a nice BG that makes your shto more beautiful
The first think that I saw was the semi-moon spots on the wings and I want to ask you about that but then I read your note.
TFS and see you
