This flower is now taking its place when others are dying under the sun.
I like its color a lot.

Chicory is the common name given to the flowering plants in genus Cichorium of the family Asteraceae. There are two cultivated species, and four to six wild species.

Common chicory (Cichorium intybus) is a bushy perennial herb with blue or lavender flowers. It is originally from the Old World and was naturalized in North America, where it has become a roadside weed(1). The roots are baked, ground, and used as a coffee substitute and additive in the plant's Mediterranean region of origin, although its use as a coffee additive is still very popular in the American south, particularly in New Orleans. Common chicory is also known as blue sailors, succory, and coffeeweed. The plant is cultivated and used as endive under the common names radicchio, Belgian endive, French endive, or witloof. It is grown in complete darkness to keep new leaves tender and pale.

Cichorium is used as a food plant by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Setaceous Hebrew Character and Turnip Moth.

Root chicory (Chicorium intybus var. sativum ) has been grown since the Middle Ages as a coffee substitute. Around 1970 it was found that the root contains up to 20% inulin. Since then, new strains have been created, giving root chicory an inulin content comparable to that of sugar beet (around 600 dt/ha). Inulin is mainly present in the plant family Asteraceae as a storage carbohydrate (for example Jerusalem artichoke, dahlia, etc.). It is used as a sweetener in the food industry (with a sweetening power 30% higher than that of sucrose). Inulin can be converted to fructose and glucose through hydrolysis.

Chicory, with sugar beet and rye was used as an ingredient of the East German Mischkafee (mixed coffee), introduced during the 'coffee crisis' of 1976-9

The chicory flower is often seen as inspiration for the Romantic concept of the Blue Flower.

Hola Jose!

La composición es simple pero muy bonita! El azul de la flor es impresionante!
Bien hecho!

Very beautiful color, José!
The chicory bravely resists the dry heat of summer, and its noble colour seems to be shining after sunset.
Very good details, powerful composition of great reduction, and very well handled exposure and postwork that very well maintained the subtle colours. Very pretty contribution!
With thanks, and best regards,

Holla José!
Nice composition! What a beautiful colour in this flowers! Just wonderful! Well done!

Perfect use of depth-of-field and stunning colours. Great shot.

Thanks Ana:)

Hello José , this blue color of Chicory is amazing!! Great composition and details. Excellent POV too, very well done, TFS, Didier.

This is art. Very sharp. The background is dark enough to enhance the beauty of the flower but remains natural. Light was perfect. It is pure beauty.

Hi jose, this is very comon flower from Slovenia too. Exsdcelent shot with vivid coloures and good notice about it.

Usually shots of two identical flowers are "boring". I know, I have tried many times and clicked on delete, each time. Yours, Jose, is definitely not boring as you know and can tell by the numerous comments you have received. So what makes this image stand out?
1- The composition: a simple diagonal strongly in place;
2- The perfect regular and attractive shape of the flowers;
3- The intense and luminous blue colour against the a darker background which because it is not completely blurred give a sense of depth to the image;
4- The sharpness given by the right focus and exposure.

Well done!

very pretty I never knew these were chicory flowers..:o) I have these growing at my house too..lovely photo..TFS

Otra muestra de talento para capturar imágenes de flores Jose.
Colores maravillosos, puros, sin saturiación con agradable composición en contraste con el fondo oscuro, con gran control de la luz.
Cordiales saludos... Ricardo

Hello Jose!
I love the colours!! This is so beautiful flower! Great shot!

Hello Jose!
Short come back to your earlier pictures ;)
Very nice composition with great saturated colours and very good details. I like a lot a symetry of this picture.
Note is very interesting, I didn't know about using this plants as a source of coffee and insulin! :)
TFS and have a nice Easter,
