This beautifull Nymphalidae is common in south Europe but in Israel is not common at all and fly only in three areas. it is a fast flyer and territorial. this causes it to fly toward every invador trying to get it out of the territory. many adults can be seen with their wings missing pieces because of daily fightings.
This adult was probably very fresh the day I took the shot and its wings were perfect.
