It's time to add another picture of flower to my gallery.

This is a lovely pink flower of Hoary plantain (Plantago media).

These plants are quite common here but I must admit I didn't really notice them before. Last weekend I spend lots of time on meadows hunting for butterflies and dragonflies (a river goes through the meadows so there's lots of dragons there too). That's where I found lots of these plants.

Hoary plantain is native to central Europe and can be found in damp grassy meadows. It has delicate pink-white flowers that are placed on high stalks developed from a rosette of finely-haired leaves.

The plant is edible and has long maintained reputation for medicinal effects as an astringent for treating wounds.

When I was a kid I was very lively and spent most time climbing trees and doing things like that. Fortunatelly now I don't feel such a great need to climb a tree anymore ;-)
Anyway, I used to had lots of scratches on my legs and hands. I learned then, that when you hurt yourself it is good to put a leaf of this plant on the wound. I don't really remember if it worked, but I know we did it sometimes.

I know this is my another picture with blue sky in BG. The thing is this shot have been taken at very late afternoon. The sun was low and the light perfect for shots like that. I didn't have to use flash because the sun was behind my back and the sky in BG was in a very deep blue colour.

PS. I just remembered that in Poland Plantains are called Babka. It can be translated as Grandma. I guess this is because of the hoary looking flowers of these plants.

Hi Monika, we have similar plantains (not pink) here in NZ too, but I never knew about using the leaves as an astringent for treating wounds. Lovely composition (as usual from you) and I love your Polish blue sky. Well done, very arty!

Wonderful POV Monika
Clear shot and nice BG
From your shot seems like a huge flower.

How beautiful ! I love composition very much. Lovely colors also, all these different nuances of blue in the sky are particularly gorgeous. Excellent details, POV and DOF. Interesting ote too, I often saw these flowers but didn't know their medicinal use. Very well done !

Hi Monika!

I must say, that I'm very dissapointed that you don't feel great need to climb trees :-) Climbing is good, especially after loooong day at work.

Babka looks nice, your SkyBG [TM] works as always great. Details, composition, POV - all very good. Note excellent. Genuine TN post!

beautiful shot and a very interesting note, monika! :-)
everyday, learn something new - now i will have to see,
if i find one here, too, because i do not really remembering
one around, since it has been a long while i "played" outside.

and wonderful colors and details.

Lovely note and a nicely composed image.

Hi Monika,
An excellent shot using the low POV here. Perfectly isolated. Exposure looks very good, and this has given beautiful subtle colors and tones. Nice sharp detail. The blue sky backround tops it off!
Well done!

Hi Monika,

Well done on this capture and composition. Excellent work.

The low POV clearly defines the details of the flower and because Its not a strong colour may have been lost in with BG foliage so good choice. The green a long the bottom balances the compo. Well done Monika.

Hi Monika,
A lovely flower. I really like the way you use the low POV, especially in this case as you have the deep blue of the high atmosphere graduating to the paler blue at the horizon. Nature's own blue grad filter :-) Nice to include just that line of ground at the bottom too, I think the flower would look a little lost without it. Great light with the sun behind you, great exposure and excellent colours. It's definitely a great time of the day for taking pictures. Amusing note too, so you don't feel the need to climb a tree anymore, just to crawl around on the ground taking pictures :-) Great work.

Bonjour Monika, cette fleur est toute simple mais vous savez la mettre parfaitement en valeur. Belle composition and great sharpness too. Didier.

great shot Monika - I gather you are considering an EOS 350D - great camera, but please don't stop taking photo like this. The sky really adds something excellent to these pictures. the separation from the rest of the meadow and the detail is excellent.
