Gentiana acaulis L. -
Silikat-Glockenenzian, Trumpet Gentian,

growing in abundance in early summer above silicate rocks, in higher elevations showing an intense colour of azzurro blue that seems to bring heaven to earth.

The picture was taken two years ago in the remote valley of Winnebach, a side valley of the Oetztal Valley near the village of Gries im Sulztal, at an elevation of 2300 meters above sea level.

Hi Peter!

Gentianas are one of my favourite flowers. They grow in Romania too (including this specie) in fair numbers on the alpine meadows and mountain cliffs, right on this time of the year (although we have some autumnal species too).
Photo is professional looking. Clever use of the wideangle lens.

Regards, Petru

Nice shot for this beautiful Gentiana in mountain.
It is not "Gentiana acaulis" but "Gentiana clusii". The species acaulis have black spots on olive-green stripes inside the flower. Yours inside have only black spots on blue, so it is clusii... Just few people know this detail and make the confusion, they are so similar.
Congratulations Peter and TFS

Hi Peter
± An hour ago I have done a critique for Christian Pourre (TAZ) who posted a photo of the same species, but the difference in colour intensity is rather amazing. While his was photographed on the French side of the Alps (Chinaillon) yours were done in Austria on the mountains of Tyrol which I gather still forms part of the greater Alpine mountain range. Both photos are lovely and I am not trying to compare the two photos in that respect, but it is just striking to see the change in colour.
Yours has a deep blue appearance and the insides almost seem to be black while Christian's flowers have a much lighter blue sheen and the insides are a greenish colour. Very interesting.
Your composition is great showing us much more of the environment and not just the flower itself. The colours are well saturated, the details are fabulous, the BG is magnificent (well at least the portion we can see of the mountain range and the sky), and the exposure was well managed.
Great work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

PS. After your heavty climb on this elevated trial I hope you had the opportunity to enjoy a well deserved chill-out session in the ice cold lake at Winnebachseehütte or at least, if you have not then you should surely make a plan to do it this time. Then you can come back and tell us how cold it really was. Enjoy your trip, especially with your daughter going along. Who knows she might suddenly become aware of the beauty of her fathers great pastime.

Very nice combination again of landscape and near focused flower and FG..
Aesthetically pleasing shot..
Well done and TFS!

Hello Peter! Wonderful clarity and detail in all your pictures. This one is dear to me - I've collected a few dried specimens as a memento from home.
Cheers

Hallo Herr Von Schmetterlingen,

There is a saying here: "Search and you shall find"... Wel;l I searched, and indeed I did find! Another shot of the landscape in Austria.
I find that very pleasing, esp. as it shows the habitat for the Gentian.

Do you know if Gentian is used(?) to create "gentian violet" a liquid that is used to cure blisters on lips?

Anyway I like this valleyshot. Looks like you did not drive up there in a Winnebago!

Lieber Peter,
Anne
