This is probably Lesser Purple Emperor [Apatura ilia ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775). Picture isn't maybe high quality, but I decided to post it. Why? Firstly - because I saw this butterfly first time in my life. I was walking in The Garden in area with small ponds and rocks. It was very hot morning, every being was exhausted and thirsty. Suddenly I spotted this butterfly. Big, brown, unknown to me. When I changed my POV, browns turned to purple. Wow, it was great moment. I spended good thirty minutes hunting and chasing this beauty. Unfortunatelly my Canon didn't work well in such temperatures [over 40C] and focus isn't good. Tomorrow I'll send another picture with only brown shades on wings. Anyway, it was very exciting meeting and I hope not last this summer. By the way - I saw also Swallowtail, but with no chance to take photo of it.

So this is a psychedelic butterfly with changing wing colours Greg? How exciting for you, and you do show him well. I like the yellow bands it has on its arms too, quite different! Good shot my friend.

16C here and when the sun is out it gets even warmer!

Congrats Greg, this is an excellent butterfly shot. I wish it would be mine. I never saw this beautiful butterfly. Excellent sharpness, great colours, lighting and great POV too. I like it very much. Thank you for posting.

A lovely photo. although your comment, I think the image is in great shape. colors are great and so are details.
BG and POV are beautifull,
very well done and TFS!!

I find one side of its wings brown and the other blue, Greg. Maybe something to do with my laptop monitor. How I hate these screens, but what to do? You can't carry your desktops with you! I am in transit at the moment, heading towards India.
Maybe because of the dual colours I can see in this butterfly, I guess I like it better that way.
Take care and bye.

Very good photo of this beautiful Nymphalidae Grzegorz!
I like the light on the wings that shows one with blue tone!
Very good POV with wings open!
Good DOF and details!
5* and TFS!

At first I thought it was David Bowie´s butterfly :)
I have seen this changing textures on common blues or small buttelflies, but not a blue reflection on a brown middle sized like this one. My first time too.
And quality is not that bad... what I am not sure if it was your cam or your hand what did not work well over 40şC :DD
Reagards. :)

Hello greg, excllent colors, Bg, POV DOF Perfect details, Everything is really crisp, TFS Kyle

Hi Greg ! What a wonderful butterfly, with changing colors ! Must have been great to encounter such a beautiful insect, it's like a glistening jewel ! Quality is not that bad and i'm glad you posted it. Good details and wonderful vivid colors, great PO, nice composition, I like it very much.

Hello Greg,
I've seen them too but they are really difficult to capture. They visit my pond for water but when you get a little closer they quickly fly away. I'm impressed that you managed to capture it. I'm impressed with your courage of going outside in this heat too ;-)

Yeah, what an interesting wings! Well seen and beautifully taken. Amazing shot!

Hi Greg,
Beautiful colors and very well exposed mf..
Like the head down comp. and angle of the b-fly as well :) Very nice details,
Very well done.
