I took that picture on a citizen park in Denver (going there for a business trip) while I was trying to catch swallows pictures. That little guy (Eastern Fox Squirrel) surprised me, ran over a tree and stayed like that on that branch, looking at me, eating. This is the first time I saw such a big squirrel. Ours in Quebec are really smaller that those ones.

The Eastern Fox Squirrel was introduced in Denver area 20 years ago, and then, several guides are wrong not specifying that new distribution.

Hope you'll like my little guy!

-------
Eastern fox squirrels have long, foxtail-like tails, which they flick when they are excited. They and eastern gray squirrels are alike in many ways. They breed at the same time of year, nest in the same kinds of places, and eat the same foods. However, fox squirrels prefer more open habitat, whereas grays prefer good tree cover. Fox squirrels spend more time foraging and running about on the ground than do the grays, and may be encountered in fields quite far from any trees, where gray squirrel would not stray. Both species feed on acorns, which are rich in tannins. Tannins are poisonous to many animals, including worms, and keep the squirrels free of roundworms and tapeworms. Fox squirrels accumulate another chemical compound, porphyrin, in their bones and teeth, which makes their bones and teeth pink and bright red under ultraviolet light. Here's a mystery: gray squirrels eat the same foods and this does not happen to them—nor to any other healthy mammal.

Hi Michel,
I like your little guy! A beautiful shot. The white BG on the left is a little distracting but it's still a fantastic shot. Wonderful detail and great exposure despite the bright BG. Great colours on the Squirrel and what really stands out for me is the direct eye contact and the Squirrel is not bothered. In fact it seems quite the opposite, he seems very comfortable with you being there, he hasn't even stopped eating :-) Excellent work.
Regards,
Adrian

Hi Michel,
You lucky...... You got yourself a friend in Denver. I am just amazed that he came to you and posed for you in such a beautiful way. Great photo with excellent colors, light and sharpness.

Belle prise de cet écureuil. Vous l'avez vraiment photographié au bon moment en train de manger. Il semble presque magouiller quelque chose :) La prise de vue et les détails sont excellents ainsi que les notes! Merci,
