As i am noe in my times of experimenting, I said to myself why not try something new again...at least for me :)
So, here is my first butterfly post, which also coresponds to my first 2-in-1 picture.

This is a Purple Emperor (Apatura iris), a quite common butterfly in my latest trips.
What i like most of all about it is that the upper side of its wings can reflect the sunlight i a very unique and beautiful way, making them appear blue. But, thare is a catch: this phenomenon can be observed only if you look from the right angles - both the angle with the sun and the one with the vertical.
This being said, i'm not going to give more info on the species, since i've seen other posts about it and they pretty much cover it all :)

Both the images in my picture are about the exact same specimen, only from different POVs...the reflections are more than visible.
Unfortunately, as i saw it was the case of other photographers, i couldn't catch it on any other BG...only cow poop :(

Even so, hope you'll like it.

Hi Horia,
beautiful wings of b-flies, good colours, interesting work 2 in one. Good note also. I like it. Well done photos.
Gr., Aleksander

A verry well done shot, Horia!
Nice, vibrant collors and a good POV.
TFS

This is a truly amazing phenomenon, Horia. The wings of the butterfly look quite different in these two shots taken from different perspectives.
The bigger one by virtue of the shade of blue on its wings looks prettier to me.
Well done and TFS.

Hello Horia,
a very pretty specimen of Apatura iris that you have captured very well, with excellent colours and details! The chosen point of view demontstrates the striking blue iridescence in a perfect way while it makes it difficult to get the butterfly sharp - but you managed that very well.
Presenting the same butterfly from another angle without the blue iridescence is very well informing.
Don't worry about the cow dung, I saw these very pretty butterflies sitting on stuff that is much worse indeed. They never visit any flowers.
Thank you for this pretty posting, and best regards,
Peter

PS: By the way, the species you show here is not the "Lesser Purple Emperor" which is a bit smaller, has eyespots on its forewings, too, and is called "Apatura ilia". It is the true and classical "Purple Emperor" you have shown here.

Hello Horia.
The experiment come out superbly nice and the butterfly looks superb not only for the colors but because of the details and the composition.
Great POV and nice touch with the insert.
Keep them coming, they look great.
TFS

Hi Horia,
it's a nice picture of a beautiful butterfly.
But I'm not so keen on coping picture in photos.

Nu lam vazut niciodata in Romania. Wonderful photo, brilliant composition and POV! TFS - Xplorator Radu

Hello Horia,
Very nice job with this. Excellent color and exposed well. Interesting POV with good DOF and sharp detail. And the cow poop...well ;)
Great presentation with inset view.
Very well done.

Ha ha! What a beauty but look at where it is sitting! Great shot except the bg for sure! Sorry Hoira, but this scene made me laugh indeed ;-) No matter about fresh looking poop, so it should be one of its natural habitats, i know the butterflies feeding from flowers generally!

So clooose to b'fly and superb focusing and sharpness, amazing colours on it. With your collage this is a great post!
Cheers!
Ersin

Hi Horia

Nice picture Horia. I like sharpness and fantastic colors. It is one of my favorite butterfly, but quite rare in our region. Also I found it on cattle excrements only :-( and I have two picture of the species on TN. Have a nice weekend.

Very interesting post: rare subject and informative notes, plus the shot is well taken and the image is sharp. That's what TN is all about. Thank you, Horia!

Nice POVs Horia and useful workshop on the reflections.
Excellent work from all sides. Really useful note too.
TFS and see you

bonsoir
je suis fan de papillons et je trouve ta photo magnifique
belle exposition, bon travail couleurs parfaites et netteté
bravo
edith

Nice capture.
Brilliant demonstration of the reflection depending blue coloration. New to me. Also the fact that they feed on bullshit (could one believe he's an emperor?).
Very useful note
TFS

Hi Horia,
So beautiful and bright colours! Great capture.
Greetings,
Vanilla

Horia, what one can't accomplish with cow-poop eh!

Outstanding presentation. The only improvement I would make is to shift the inset flush with the upper left corner. See WS for that idea...

I also played a wee with the colour balance and sharpness.

The reflection aspect reminds me of the BlueJay. See my Note:

TFS, Jay

Hi Horia,

How beautiful this is. You have captured it perfectly. Well done.

Jan-Hendrik

Dear my friend Horia,

Very beautiful and wonderful shot of this amazing butterfly. I know this one and in my country, we have similiar one is named "Freyer's purple emperor".
It's amazing to appear the various colours on the wings regarding the angles and sunlight.
I will post the collage of korean butterflies next time, you can see the our purple emperor, it's very small size though.

You've captured very close-up shot with nice pose, excellent details and focusing.
Well presented and TFS,
Best regards, Kevin
Have a great weekend!
