This butterfly is from Cebeci and taken at the last sunday. i have no idea about the species, i want to know it, if anyone can help me i will be happy :-)

This guy was in the spruce forest near the seashore and wanted to put the sunlights on its wings, i think for the coming cool night.

i used my flash absolutely ;-) You know this is my habit :-)

This is a Speckled Wood - Pararge aegeria :-) Many many thanks to Peter (Batu) and Inanç (litoriachloris) for their identification help.

Speckled Wood - Pararge aegeria

Individual Speckled Woods rarely live longer than a week to ten days, but are continuously brooded while the weather is warm enough. The Speckled Wood is a unique butterfly in its ability to overwinter in either the caterpillar or chrysalis stages.
The species lives in colonies which can number up to several hundred individuals by late summer. The butterfly is sedentary but females can wander further afield, sometimes establishing new colonies.

Both sexes feed on aphid honeydew. The females spend more time in the tree-tops than the males, which patrol along rides and glades in search of a mate. The female is more evident whilst egg-laying, searching for suitable Cocksfoot and Couch grasses to deposit a single egg.

Description: Wingspan 4-4.5cm. Wings brown with pale yellow spots, especially on forewings; forewing with one eye-spot, hindwing with three; in the female (pictured) the pattern of yellowish spots is more extensive than in the male; underside of hind wing marbled brown yellow. The intensity of the colours varies greatly from place to place.

Habitat: All types of woodland offering dappled shade and shady hedgerows.

Flight period: Mid-March to October, usually with two or three broods.

Behaviour: Prefers to remain in shade and half-shade; readily rests on the leaves of shrubs and herbaceous plants; feeds on nectar and the juice of overripe berries, also on excrement and flowing tree sap. The male will vigorously defend his territory against intruders; the female lays her eggs singly on grass stems and the leaves of the caterpillar's food plants.

Caterpillar: Matt green with a short pale forked tail, with very short hairs. Feeds on Wood Sedge, False Brome, Bearded Couch, Cocksfoot, Yorkshire Fog and other species of grass. Chrysalis green or dark brown, suspended from the base of grass stems or beneath loose stones.

Hibernation: As a chrysalis, but occasionally as a caterpillar.

Hi Ersin,

Lovely contrast in this sharp and interesting capture.

Merhaba Ersin Bey,
Yine nefis bir çalışma. Herşey 4/4 lük. Ellerinize sağlık.

Merhaba Ersin Bey!
Excellent shot of whatever the species is. Very good POV, exposure, details and tight framing. In some situations natural light is better, yet in most closeups use of flash is absolutely necessary. Regards,

Not as colorful as a Peacock or a Swallowtail, but still a very beautiful butterfly. Excellent sharpness and textures on the wings, and wonderful details on the hairy body. I have the feeling I could almost touch it ! :-) Beautiful colors, composition and POV, as usual from you. Very well done !
