Well this was the view from our tent in the Outer Hebridies and a rather unusual sunset. The colours are real and unedited, though I have slightly underexposed the picture in the conversion process.

The very foreground is the edge of the Machair, a very special environment I have convered previously.

The next layer up is the beach, made up entirely of crushed shells, it is almost white in colour during the day.

The water is the Altantic Ocean, next stop, Canada, Greenland or the North Pole.

Then come the islands. They create this unique environment forming a sheltered bay and are only accessible by boat.

And then the sky. The weather was on the change here and so you can see the sunset has some unusual colours to it. For the previous 2 or 3 nights we had had fantastic sunsets and sundogs and mock mirage sunsets - again see previous posts for more info. Then we had this sunset, if you can call it a sunset, then sun is not in the picture and was obscured by cloud completely, but it created this effect and I had to capture it.

Convereted from RAW (-0.33 exposure bias), cloned out some lens dust - beaches are not the best place to keep equipment clean - resized and sharpened.

Colours are real! Please enjoy and feel free to critique.

Hello Emma,

This is an excellent tent-view! Makes me wanna go camping again. Two more weeks before I go on a holiday to the Southwest of England. I really like all the shades of blue. Well composed. Well done & TFS!

Hi Emma,
Wow, a great view to have from a tent. This is great, it has a feel of the place to it, as did your photo of the rock. A real sense of peace and solitude here. Beautiful colours and a nicely balanced 'layered' composition. Great work.

Wonderful capture Emma,
I read your note..thanks for the heads-up on the colors..
The colors of the water look surreal, especially in contrast to the white sand I see..The different layers of the composition are just fantastic..I like this alot..
Very well done!

Hi Emma,
We have this commercial in Holland about a coffee brand. It has everything to do with sleeping in a tent during a multiple day concert and with a coffee wake up call. They serve you coffee in the morning if you put a sign up before you go to bed. For me, I can do without the coffee if I can have a view like this. Just beautiful. It is lovely to see the transition from the flowers to the great white beach and onward to the beautiful blue ocean with the great island and then ending with such a beautiful sky.

A wonderful photo of top quality.
