Fresh from the "Balcony Studio" - a Garden Spider having a feast.

Sorry about the unspectacular bg - the spider has built
its net in my satellite dish.

The European garden spider (Araneus diadematus, cross
spider) is a very common and well-known orb-weaver
spider in Western Europe. Araneus diadematus also
lives in parts of North America, in a range extending
from New England and the Southeast to the Northwestern
United States and adjacent parts of Canada.

Individual spiders' colouring can range from extremely
light yellow to very dark gray, but all european
garden spiders have mottled markings across the back
with five or more large white dots forming a cross.
The white dots result from cells that are filled with
guanine, which is a byproduct of protein metabolism.

It is hard to provoke a garden spider to bite - if it
does, the bite is slightly unpleasant and utterly

Hallo Thorsten,

Yuk - great photo but I have a bit of an eye phobia so the title made me a bit wary about what I would see!

Great details and an excellent action shot. The colours and composition are fabulous

Nice one Thor good clear capture , the Sat. dish makes a perfect OOF BG against which to capture the scene. maybe a slight touch of shadow and highlights to bring up a bit more detail in the black areas of the fly and tone down the flash highlights on the spider.
TFS yours Robert

Hi Thor

Superb macro shot, great detail and nice to see the underneath of the Spider for a change, nice colours too and I like the light catching the web too.
I'm not so keen on the eye sucking though!

Regards Hilary ;o)

Hallo Thorsten,

Great Macro with great lense in hands of good photographer

Hi Thor,
Great capture... I say it for the spider ;) . And for you.
I like the tittle, it's funny, but I don't think the fly consider the same.
The details and illumination are superb, the Bg make the compo more strange, but not disturb the main objects.

Superb close up picture, Thor!
Nicely capturing this spider, while eating [or sucking] the fly.
Very sharp, neat, and nice details.
Well composed.
Nice shot.

Hi Thorsten
Its lunch time for him. Well seen and captured. Good colours, sharpnes, details and POV.
Well done mf

Hi Thorsten,
Excellent spider/prey shot. Very good use of flash to bring out some nice sharp details..
Very good DOF, color, framing and POV of the action.
I think the white BG serves to set-off the subjects well here..
This spider looks just like the tropical orb weaver here I posted..Perhaps same spider, but different common name?
Very well done.
