The Basin

[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
One of my first water cascade picture. I wanted to have a nice water effect by having a long exposure time. I decided to use a f/40 opening. I am quite pleased with the result.
This picture has been taken in the Franconia Notch State Park. The Basin area is full of glacia features like potholes, waterfall and cascades. The bigest pothole in the area is 20 feet in diameter. It is believed to have been eroded 15,000 years ago while the North American ice sheet was melting. The Basin has been smoothed by small stones and sand, whirled around by the Pemigewasset River.
The Basin can be accessed from the northbound and southbound directions of I-93. There are picnic tables and walking paths, as well as hiking trails.

Your picture is very soothing. The falls are a little too blurred for me. But that is only my perference. You can feel the coolnes of the water and love the green at the top.

Hello Patrick,
Very nice shot, wonderful detail and perfect exposure. As Kathy says, very soothing, a very peaceful image. Great colours too. I'd prefer not such a slow shutter speed as the form of the water has been lost. That's just my preference though, there are so many different ways of taking a shot like this and so many different opinions about the shutter speeds. I still like it though, it's a beautiful piece of work.
Regards,
Adrian

Hello Patrick,
The picture is very nice and pleasing for the eye. I agree with Adrian though. If you would have used a shorter shutterspeed of let's say 1 second, the effect would have been better. Other than that; well done. You handled the exposure very well. TFS!

Pieter
