[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Cassowaries (genus Casuarius) are very large flightless birds native to the tropical forests of New Guinea and northeastern Australia. Some nearby islands also have small cassowary populations, but it is not known if these are natural or the result of the New Guinea trade in young birds. They are frugivorous; fallen fruit and fruit on low branches is the mainstay of their diet. They also eat fungi, snails, insects, frogs, snakes and other small animals. Recently, they have also been spotted to attack humans, though this usually only occurs in self-defense when humans intrude upon the birds' territory or cause them to feel threatened.

Cassowaries (from the Indonesian name kasuari) are part of the ratite group, which also includes the emu, rhea, ostrich, moa, and kiwi. There are three species:
Southern Cassowary or double-wattled cassowary C. casuarius of Australia and New Guinea.
Dwarf Cassowary C. bennetti of New Guinea and New Britain.
Northern Cassowary C. unappendiculatus of New Guinea.

Hi Annick, great shot. looks a bit like an alien. Fantastic colours and details. well done and TFS.
Dean.

Lovely shot! You've captured this Cassowary brilliantly, focus/DOF are good, and the colours are amazing. About the only thing I'm less keen on is the noise in the background - I'd consider running something like NeatImage over it to reduce it. Anyway, a great image :D

P.S. I've posted a Workshop for you which I hope you'll find useful!

Hi Annick,

An outstanding portrait of that colourful bird. One of the nicest bird portrait i've seen recently. Perfect POV, adapted DOF.
Well seen and well done, indeed.
TFS. One more for my favourites ;o)

Wooooooow ! What an incredible bird that you have very well captured ! he comes from Jurasic Park ;-) Colors, exposure, DOF and sharpness are great. I also appreciate the complementary note... Congratulations Annick and thanks for sharing this superb portrait.

Amazing,... hardly see birdy like this one. Too colorful indeed. TFS

Surprenant. Très pratique pour régler son appareil. Merci et chapeau

Hi Annick,
This bird is almost unreal! It is like you have heavily processed it in PP (I know that you didn't) but those colors are so impressive! I never saw this kind of bird before... I can not say if I think he is nice or not :) The only thing that I'm sure about is that I wouldn't be attacked by him; what a nightmare... This is a great portrait with a little bit of noise. If I knew the ISO settings I could have done a WS to remove it
but AdrianW was kind enough to give you the link to Neat Image that is very useful! Great catch and congratulations!

TFS y saludos... Ricardo

Impressive close up Annick of this bird almost of cartoons.
Vivid colors and good POV, with appropriate framing.
The focus is centered in the glance, but it is not even in the whole animal.
A slight noise exists in the bottom of the image... regrettably you have not informed the values of the camera.
TFS and greetings... Ricardo

Regards, Krzysztof.

Wow! A beautiful but prehistoric looking bird. This Cassowary is just so unique looking, the colours are amazing on this guy. I love to see new and learn about new species on TN. Thanks so much for sharing.
Janice

Hello Annick,

WOW! What a colorful bird. And what a look!!! He looks like a clown! Excellent composition and pov. The only thing is that there is some noise in bg and that the colors looks a little bit too saturated (maybe not???). Great job and TFS,

Michel

Annick,
Probably the strangest bird I've ever seen!
Colorful like a Lorikeet but twice as ugly as a vulture. It's strange how mother nature works. I keep scrolling back up to see the pic.....incredible!
Scott

Awsome colours and a great pose fine detail congrats.

THis is a splendid portrait!
It`s like looking into the eyes of a dinosaur.
Very nice POV, great colors and details!

Hi Annick!
I don't know if this is amazing or frightening to me, but great portrait with explosive vivid colors and very good details, really war colors!

AHHH!!! ALIEN!!
This is such a weird looking bird! Thank god they don'f fly or it would be very disturbing and scary to watch them in mid air and flying down to land!
Attack humans? Gee who woulda thought!
Your colors are so vibrant! U almost make the bird look good! The photo in itself is great.

:)

I finally got to critique-ing this particular one. What a remarkable bird. Besides perhaps the bokeh which may look slightly noisy, still a Good portrait.

Further an - Impeckable - Gallery, very impressive. Highly professional. Nothing but praise here. Well done, Bravo!
