|I snapped this Great Blue Heron on Lake Henderson in Inverness, Florida. I had taken a couple shots of him in the fading light and after the sun went down completely, I decided to try one with the flash since he was still standing there. It's a rather unnatural visual effect, but it highlights the bird so well, I'd like to know what others think of the result.|

Good shot, but the heron is a bit overexposed.
Kirby, Overall I like it. It does create (as you say) a rather un-natural visual effect. Less flash maybe? It's a great late evening scene..TFS
Very good shot Kirby.
The Heron is a little overexposure by the flash but it's very difficult to get the fill-in effect with a compact digi when the subject is not in the middle of the frame. I know, I have owned a CP 5700.
Good sharpness, colours and note.
Very well done.
It is strange the effect of the "flashed bird" on the moody BG, it looks like a collage. No doubth is a different style :D
Thanks for posting.
