My 100th post

I was trying to find something nice for my 100th post so I went for a drive this morning west of Cochrane and found several Big Horn Sheep on the top of a small hill. I had to hike up the hill a short ways to get close enough for a reasonable shot and this is my favorite.

Big Horn Sheep are brown to greying brown and can weight up to 300 lbs. The males can have large curved horns which look like an egyptian head gear. Their eyesight is sharp, and they can detect motion 1 Km away.
Big Horn Sheep can be found at high elevations in the summer grazing the open meadows. They are sure footed animals with hooves like shock absorbers. The outside of the hoof is hard and the inside is soft.

During November and December the sheep breed, otherwise known as the Rut. The males fight for the right to breed by running toward another male and smashing their heads to together. It's a frightful sound but usually does not do to much harm as they have lots of padding in their head and horns.

Big Horn Sheep are grazers and eat mostly grass and forbs. Forbs are non woody plants other than grass.

Hi janice !
Congratulations on your 100th post ! I can still remember your very first post so well ! :-)) Time goes by so fast ! Must be great to see these bighorns in the wild, you're so lucky ! Very beautiful composition and POV, with the animals against the blus sky. Very well done !
Valérie.

Congratulations on number 100! what a nice shot. I really don't see how you were able to sneak up on them. What kind of lens were you using? How close did you get? i can't believe that you got three of them at once!...all perfectly posed. What luck, or skill or both!

TFS

Somebody has a new camera and telephoto lens!

Nice capture.. the morning sun makes for a difficult exposure .. and it's hard the ask a bighorn to move a bit so the light is better.

Very nice.

Wow ! What a beautiful and interesting shot that you have well done ! I like the quiet pose of these Mouflons. I also appreciate the complementary note... Congratulations Janice and thanks for sharing.

Hi janice,
Congratulations with your 100th post. I am almost there as well. On my vacation I had the luck that I only needed to walk outside my cabin to see the Big Horn Sheep. I made a few photo which I will post later on, but not as beautiful as yours. I like the fact they all lay down and just looked at you.
TFS,
Niek

I had a book as a child called "Buford the Big Hown" and always remember it when I see one of these animals.
This trio look so good against the skyline Janice. I like how they are stariing down at you. Good shot, tfs,
Janice (NZ)

PS I bought a 30D last week (1st Sept)... It's great to use, and I love practicing with it... How are you finding it?

Hola Janice,
Felicitaciones por las primeras 100 fotos en TN!
Me gusta bastante esta foto, porque son de animales salvajes y no creo que sean de los más fáciles para acercarse; por eso creo que tiene un gran valor, y porque son unos bellos animales.

Saludos
Hernán
