[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Rob (Robbrown) came down yesterday on a photo hunt and we went off fungi hunting and found quite a few in the woodland alongside my home and this one has left us wondering what it actually is. Seems it might be an uncommon fungus called Abortiporus biennis , see here for Rob's notes.

Rob's picture is of what we think is a slightly younder specimen with an 'infant' in the background. Mine shows the one that is more grown, though I shall be keeping a daily watch on it to chart its progress.

Again this picture shows the red liquid the fungus exudes. This images is redder than Rob's becuase this particular fungus was substantially redder than the other 2 that were growing along with it.

They were growing in a straight line leading directly back to the trunk of a tree which already had another fungus growing on its trunk - similar in structure but without the coloring.

Anyhow - here's sample number 2 and a slight diversion from the holiday photos.

Also still no broadband... Boy do I miss it.

I saw Rob's Fungi and this one is even more amazing - such fabulous colours. Nice sharp shot - I look forward to the next one!

Hi Emma,
This is quite an amazing looking fungi, I've never seen anything like it before. A nice shot, good detail, great colours and exposure and great DOF too. Interesting note as well. Can't believe you stil ldon't have broadband, I would have switched suppliers by now.

I am backed up like crazy. I haven't been able to do anything last weekend and now I am trying to get to page 1 again. Looks like you and Rob had a good time together photographing the neighbourhood.
Great photo with beautiful details and warm fall colors. Do you use the onboard flash or do you have a better one. It did do the job and brought out the colors perfectly.

It was very interesting not only to see this fungus, which new for me, but to see Roberts alternative shots with the underside. The colours and shapes are very cool.
DOF is slightly short for my taste, but DOF with fungus is an obsesion in my case :)

Dear Emma,
Found in your portfolio this unusual image i.e. as you say a diversion from your "usual line"
Living in a exceptionally dry area, I NEVER see fungi... do not know anything about them; have not even a Field Guide. Though, moving in the near future to a very wet part of South Africa - and at a dam's edge - I imagine they will grow in my bath room...

From a photographic point of view,I like the "movement" in your image, the natural colours and the clearly defined contours of the object among all the dead/rotting leaves on the ground.
