Common blue butterfly (Polyommatus icarus)

One of Europe's most widespread butterflies it is found from the edge of the Sahara to northern Scotland and northern Scandinavia to Greece. It occupies many habitats and is found from sea level to high mountains (upto 3000m). Not surprisingly there are many variations across this range. The constant feature that greatly helps separate this species from several others is the presence of a black spot in the underside forewing cell. This distinguishes it from the otherwise very similar Chapman's Blue, A. thersites, and the larger brighter Escher's Blue, A. escheri. In northern Greece the Phalakron Blue, P. andronicus but this is so rare and local that it is unlikely to be encountered without specific expeditions to look for it. It is much larger than icarus. Confusion with other species is unlikely.

Hi Eduuard,

Another beautiful shot in your series, I love the simple composition and pose, the detail is nice and sharp, and colours are stunning, again the frame is a perfect addition to your image.

TFS Hilary :o)

Hi Eddie!
This is a really nice shot. In one of the books I read, Brian Peterson, a really accomplished photographers says, that very often there's a picture inside the picture. Looking at your photo one can tell that there could be a really nice close up of the butterfly against the dark blue sky. But the way you shot this includes very engaging visually element of the winding straw making it perhaps more interesting to the viewer's eye than the insect itself. I bet I would have screwed this one up and tried to take a shot of the butterfly as close as possible. You didn't and that's why its a beautiful image. Congratulations,

To start with I loved your notes. Most useful.
Now, the image: It is P.E.R.F.E.C.T.
Extremly well framed. How did you do this?
Well cropped, focused & a balanced composition.
Great job.
Best regards,

Salut Eddie

This is indeed a slendid composition!
That little piece of grass really looks like a rollercoaster...the small butterfly seems to have a lot of fun :)
Anyway, the colors are very beautiful, the contrast achieved between the colors of the subject and those of the BG superb, the details very sharp and the warm light i think couldn't be any better. As i said - a splendid composition.

Bravo and TFS

A very clever composition. I love the movement of the grass and the lighting and colour is perfect. Add the butterfly, and the picture is a masterpiece!
Many thanks, Ulla

Hi Eduuard
It's simple and beautiful.Well done.

Simple but good compo!
Colors and details are great.
Usefull notes.

Hi Eduard,

Hello Eduard,
Another nice composition. Simplicity really works well here just a bit of grass and a butterfly but it has so much working for it. The unusal shapes and pattern of the grass and beautifully captured butterfly all backed up with many shades of blue. It works together beautifully, great shot.
regards Matt.

Beautiful butterfly with nice blue sky.
Nice framing. Good work!!
TFS paula

I really like this. It's great because even though the butterfly is mainly brown, the blue-ish bkground brings out it's colour. I like that you include quite a fair bit of the plant/leaf(?), it gives in a very interesting framing and look. Bravo on the great DOP, colours, compo and clarity. TFS

Otra bella y colorida composición Eduard aprovechando esa rama y ese fondo maravillosamente azul.
Agradable POV y la nitidez y DOF adecuados.
Saludos... Ricardo

Another beautiful and colorful composition Eduard taking advantage of that branch and that marvelously blue backdrop.
Pleasant POV and the clarity and DOF appropriates. Greetings... Ricardo

Wonderful photo, brilliant composition and POV! TFS - Xplorator Radu

Hi Eddie,
This is an other piece of art from you :) This composition is very sophisticated again and delicate; it suits this butterfly so well! I like the movement here and this beautiful lightning. Very good POV and a very nice background too! This is very well done! Thanks,

Hi Eduard,
Lovely capture. This is such a nice capture the twisted dry leaf makes all the difference here and making this a great picture.
There is only one element that I do not like so I removed it with a workshop - hope you don't mind...

Bonsoir Eduard
