This is an image of the Istind (Ice Peak) mountain in Troms, Norway. This 1489 meter high peak is the "trademark" of the county of Målselv (Måls River).
The name is, not surprisingly, given from its glaciers on the north slope, as you can see in the picture. There is a marked trail leading all the way to the top, and you can recon a good 3-4 hour climb. From there, the view is astonishing, from the coast and all the way towards Sweden. Be careful, though, the top can quickly get covered in fog and clouds, as a group of hikers found out last weekend. Luckily they where rescued by a alpine rescue team and helicopter!

This picture is taken from the smaller and calmer Andsfjell (Ands Mntn). The open view from here is perfect for autumn photography, such as this.

PP: Converted from RAW, adjusting levels a bit and sharpening.
PS: I seem to have trouble getting the images sharp when i resize them. They are OK in full size, but when shrunk, they seem to be blurry. Any good ideas on that?

A really brilliant view of Norwegian mountain scenery and the colours are terrific. The two straight birches are a fine contrast to the horizon. Lovely sky - definitely a favourite!
Thanks and regards, Ulla

Nice view. Very good light and exposure.

I would rate this as the most beautiful picture of autumn posted this season, Torbjorn!
The trees in the foreground, the snow capped mountains in the distance and the features of the land highlighted by the play of light and shade make this picture uniquely beautiful.
Thanks for sharing this great image.

Hello Torbjorn

Very nice scenario you have posted here. Great warm colours and a nice composition. I cannot see the conditions under which the picture was taken in your note. Therefore my critique may be misplaced but if you had the chance to walk a few steps to the right so the tree in the right side would be in the left side instead as the only foreground tree I think the composition would be stronger. In my opinion the left tree is a little disturbing.

About the sharpness. Well, it actually is quite easy in most times. You simply add a little USM to the scaled picture before you save it for post. I have made a Work Shop to show the result.

Nice colours and warm tonality. For the sharpness, like said earlier, you have to sharpen once resized at final output. You can have a little «capture sharpen» right out of the camera too, but always have to do it again as the final step after resizing. Also, I dont know if the shot was perfectly sharp to begin with, as you took it at 1/15 (tripod?)

very nice and clear lanscape, thanks Ori

Hi Torbjorn,
Excellent colors, composition and place.
TFS, José M.

Hi Torbjorn,

This is a lovely image! I love the contrast between the different elements, the mountains and snow, blue sky and vivid autumn colours in the trees.

ps yes, I find I sometimes have to re-sharpen just a little after re-sizing - annoying isn't it!

Really nicely composed and taken. Thanks, Doug

Hi Torbjorn,
I like this one for its great autumn colors, dimensional light, and overall composition..
Well done!

Sharpening: FOR TN, I take the finished TIFF image and sharpen slightly with Intellisharpen II, then resize @ 200KB. Open one last time and apply "for the web" USM sharpening. Static radius of .3 and 0 threshold settings always the same. Just move the slider for the amount until you get the desired sharpness, with prudence the key ;)
PS - For this shot, I would've selected the sky, feathered the edge, and applied very slight noise reduction. Then inverted the selection & applied USM @ amount 90, .3 pixel radius, and 0 threshold.

Have a Great Weekend!

Hi Torbjorn,

I love Norway (I've been there in 2004 and will return for sure!) and this picture shows what I love about the country; mountains, snowcapped peaks, open spaces and stillness. Wonderful! The colors are very nice, like you say focus seems a little bit soft (what sharpening method did you use? USM? At what settings?), but the colors are great and the overall image is lovely. TFS!

so very beautfiul, love the rusty colors of the hills and trees, the snow on the mountains such a great contrast..very nice TFS
Donna :o)

This is a wonderful composition. I like it a lot. The richness of the colours is beautiful.

Hi Torbjorn,

An excellent composition. Thanks for sharing.
